We seek to recruit a combination of Ambulatory Care ACPs (8a) and Senior ACPs (8b) who will oversee the development of our advanced clinical practice agenda in the ED and significantly impact our healthcare services. Your role will be pivotal, shaping the future of our patient care. You will be supported by a team of operational and medical leaders alongside, Senior ACPs, a care group Lead ACP and our Trust Lead ACP.The ACP team at Walsall NHS Trust was rated “outstanding” by the CQC. We have an active research agenda and close links with local Universities, having co-developed acute medical MSc modules in association with the University of Birmingham. The Medical and Long-Term Division has substantially invested in ACPs in the Emergency Department/ MSDEC, offering unique professional growth and development opportunities. We have developed comprehensive training strategies, regularly teaching local and national audiences via teams or simulation-based education.We have a highly developed post-qualification plan that enables Qualified or Senior ACPs to map out where they wish to focus their non-clinical time across divisional research, leadership, or teaching goals. We have an active and ever-expanding research agenda, which will provide opportunities for you to be supported in achieving peer-reviewed publications.You will join a team internationally recognised as leaders in Advanced Clinical Practice.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will practice independently as an already qualified/senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) across the Emergency Patient Pathway. This clinically focused role will include skills in supporting departmental coordination, service and line management responsibilities, education and mentorship.The role will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed-upon scope of practice within the designated directorate. The postholder will assist in the safe treatment, referral, and discharge of patients within the ED setting within the Division of Medicine.The post holder will be expected to maintain and build upon Walsall’s national reputation for delivering advanced practice programmes. We will also need to revisit the supervision we provide for our trainees, increasing the amount of 1-2-1 time they receive in collaboration with medical colleagues.About usWalsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. The post holder will be part of the Acute Faculty for ACPs and receive supported non-clinical time.The post holder will also be expected to liaise closely with their Consultant Mentor to ensure their portfolio is up to date and a PDP is in situ and supported.Clinical Responsibilities
- Systematically assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat all types of patients accessing the service with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
- Communicate effectively with the patients carers and the multidisciplinary team.
- This post holder will have floor management responsibilities and will be responsible for assigning staff. The aim is to ensure that all department areas operate efficiently and to pre-empt problems with flow by ensuring all patients have a coherent management plan.
- To demonstrate a working knowledge of departmental integrated care pathways and contribute to developing new clinical and departmental guidelines.
- To practice as a senior clinician coordinating and providing care as required across a clinical area of the emergency and medicine directorate, supporting junior and trainee clinicians as part of an allied workforce. This will ensure that every patient receives highly specialised advice and appropriate management to facilitate a safe discharge, transfer or admission to an internal or external speciality.
