General Summary:

We seek an engineer / expert with demonstrated experience in system engineering for technical regulations and New Car Assessment Programs (NCAPs), with a focus on advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS). Experience with automotive standards is also desired.

The candidate is expected to represent Qualcomm in international and national activities by monitoring and influencing regulatory landscape related to the technical regulations and NCAPs. Regular attendance and participation in organizations such as CLEPA, VDA, NCAPs, UNECE and SAE International, ISO, is anticipated. An important internal role will be creation, maintenance and ownership of regulatory requirements data base and linking of regulatory requirements into dedicated organizational unit responsible for product development and execution.

A significant portion of the ADAS/ADS technical regulatory activity is expected to take place in Europe (e.g., engaging in working groups under CLEPA, VDA, and/or UNECE), but some activities in other regions of the world are also likely. Consequently, the candidate is expected to be available to travel frequently (e.g., up to 15 short (1-3 day) and 2 to 3 week-long meetings per year are to be expected, including both domestic and international destinations as determined by the specific organization).

The candidate will operate in collaboration with different groups and colleagues within the company, including those affiliated with research, engineering/development, products, business, and government affairs. The candidate will work in an exciting environment with a team of some of the brightest systems engineers in the industry and will have frequent interaction with other engineering disciplines. The aim is to define technical guidelines and requirements, identify preferred changes/updates to existing standards and regulations, and influence the direction of emerging standards to maximize alignment with company products and strategic direction.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Expertise (3+ years) in ADAS/ADS technologies.

  • Experience in system engineering and requirements management

  • Experience in automotive technical regulations and consumer ratings is desired.

  • Understanding and ability break down vehicle level regulations to the level of Qualcomm products

  • Knowledge of automotive standards and standards development considered beneficial

  • Experience in automotive processes is desired.

  • A good understanding of end-to-end system design

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, AI or machine learning would be beneficial

  • Experience in working with pre-competitive partners like NGO’s or academia is beneficial

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Both German and English professional language is required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills is required

  • Candidate should highlight any experience as an editor, rapporteur or chair in various organizations

  • Ability to work independently

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Masters in CS/EE is required with at least 3+ years’ experience, or equivalent mix of education and experience

This position can be placed in Munich or Berlin. Right candidate can also be placed somewhere else in Europe.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

Master’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
