Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Accounts Section (AS) of the Financial Resources Management Service (FRMS). The Accounting Assistant will work under the direct supervision of an Accountant or a more senior Accounting Assistant. Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Reconcile accounting transactions. • Examine and record financial transactions of Information Centres. • Review bank statements for all funds in foreign and local currencies by comparing transactions recorded on bank statements with accounting reports of the Organization; verify their accuracy and bring perceived problems to the attention of more senior staff. • Assist in the processing of payments due and settle staff entitlements. This includes, amongst other things, ensuring correctness of personnel action forms and communicating irregularities to supervisors, processing payment vouchers in connection with purchase of goods, equipment, printing services, freight payment, etc., and processing of travel claims in accordance with relevant rules, circulars and instructions. • Assist in the preparation of necessary documentation for distribution to various offices, departments and overseas offices. • Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform other work-related duties as required.
Competencies
Education
High school or equivalent diploma is required. Coursework/training in accounting methods and procedures is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant work experience in the field of accounting, finance, or other related fields is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in Microsoft Office Excel and Word is required. Experience with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications preferably SAP is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

This position is funded from extra budgetary resources. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year and any extension of the appointment will be subject to the availability of funding.
