Job Title: Accountant (supporting Financial Planning and Analysis)

Salary: £52,380 – £78,564 (depending on experience)

Location : Peterborough – Office presence required 3 days per week.

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5,000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

The Opportunity

The role supports the IPSD-Medium business and covers the 0.5-7.1L product range through the provision of Quality of Earnings Analysis and Long-term forecasting.

The incumbent is responsible for the end-to-end process associated with the creation of monthly quality of earnings reporting. This includes the consolidation of detailed sales and margin data and the determination of allocations for other P&L and balance sheet line items. These reports are widely used in the business to review performance against our profitable growth strategic imperative and determine where improvement efforts need to be focused. The monthly consolidation of detailed data allows for profitability to be reviewed and understood through different lenses including product, customer, and facility.

The incumbent takes accountability for the co-ordination of annual updates to the 5 Year financial plan. This involves working with the Accounting team and Business Owners to agree assumptions, consolidating data and ensuring appropriate review. The output of this process is presented in senior leader meetings and demonstrates whether the IPSD-M business is on track to achieve long term financial targets. Strong leadership skills and strategic focus are required to ensure successful delivery of the 5 Year Plan annual update.

This incumbent plays a key role in the provision of financial insights to the business through the implementation of improved reporting and analysis processes with higher levels of automation. The incumbent needs to be comfortable to consolidate and provide meaningful summarised analysis of large, complex, and disparate data sets.

Successful delivery of objectives requires strong analytic, organisational & leadership skills, and team work to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

What You Will Do:

  • Annual set up of Quality of Earnings reporting including gaining consensus on allocation methodologies to be applied.

  • Monthly creation and continuous improvement of Quality of Earnings reporting and analysis.

  • Key contact for the IPSD Consolidations team for IPSD-M Quality of Earnings reporting.

  • Leadership, Planning, Co-ordination and communication of Annual refresh to IPSD-M 5 Year Plan.

  • Consolidate the inputs to the 5 Year plan.

  • Provide reporting and analysis for the 5 Year plan to be used in a series of reviews with business owners.

  • Support the digitalisation journey of the IPSD-M Accounting team through the provision of automated reporting and analysis solutions.

  • Adhoc project work supporting the delivery of the Global Finance Organisation strategy. Key point of contact for the development of innovative process improvements.

Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.

Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Professional Certification (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)

  • Experience of accounting within a manufacturing environment

  • Project Leadership experience
