The roleAs part of the University’s ambitious Internationalisation strategy, the Centre for Academic Language and Development continues with an exciting and rapid period of growth. The Academic Advisor role is part of a designated Student Engagement Team made up of Senior Tutor, Academic Advisors and Progression Officer with oversight from the Centre Administration Managers.The Academic Advisor role provides advice and support on international students’ academic journey and development with an emphasis on successful progression from foundation year to undergraduate study. It requires detailed understanding of university regulations and confidence in providing structured advice to students and staff.What will you be doing?The successful candidate will undertake, what may be at times, sensitive and difficult conversations and referrals and involvement in a wide range of international student cases, which at times will involve under-18 students. As such, the role holder must establish excellent collaborations with other divisions such as the Faculty Education Team, Student Services, Student Visas, Residential Life and Wellbeing as well as working closely with the Senior Tutor to escalate more serious and complex cases.Monitor relevant data and liaise with academic and professional services colleagues to proactively identify and engage those students who appear to be at risk of disengaging with and/or failing in their studies.As an active member of the Centre, the role also contributes to an informed student wellbeing perspective identifying areas of best practice that can be disseminated through the Centre and Senior Tutor Network. The successful candidate will also act as one of the Student Disability Coordinators with a focus on ensuring the Centre can effectively coordinate their approach and practice in supporting students.
