The HydroGeophysics group at the Department of Geoscience is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the team. The position is available to start 1 April 2025 or as soon as possible thereefter and is a time-limited position of 2 years. The applicant will have a PhD in geophysics, physics, geology, engineering or a related discipline.The applicant will support the Rapid Groundwater Resource Mapping Project, which aims to support integrated water resources management initiatives in Ethiopia through capacity building programs and pilot studies. The project is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Your work will range widely within research, teaching, and project management support tasks within the project, and you will be part of an informal and dynamic research environment. You will have varied working days both in the office in Denmark and collecting data/teaching in Ethiopia. You will be part of an international working environment. The internal communication in the research group takes place in English.The HydroGeophysics Group includes researchers, developers, administrative staff, post docs and Ph.D students. The group carries out research and development of geophysical methods to support groundwater mapping in Denmark. In addition to Denmark, the group works with projects in Europe, India, and several countries in Africa.Tasks
Your tasks will include:
The applicant will be expected to participate in a significant amount of field work and training activities in Ethiopia. The applicant will be expected to participate in 2-4 campaigns per year with each campaign on the order of 2-3 weeks duration. A portion of these activities will involve training programs to audiences of 15-20 persons including software and field training. In some cases, the fieldwork will take place in challenging/remote conditions.Qualifications
Your background is in geophysics or a related field. In terms of language, you can express yourself fluently in English, and you would like to have experience of collaboration on an international level. You have in-depth knowledge of various geophysical methods, including ERT/IP and TEM, and you have experience in geophysical data collection. Experience with the software program Aarhus Workbench and previous experience as a trainer/teacher of geophysical methods is also considered highly desirable.The applicant must have experience in Python or similar programming languages and be willing to use/develop experimental data handling protocols.
The applicant is expected to be self-motivated, able to work independently, detail-oriented, and flexible. You can handle diverse tasks and have many balls in the air. At the same time, you have a personal impact and are willing to take responsibility. You will also be required to coordinate regularly with international partners and must enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
