You will teach mainly in the field of Procedural Law. Depending on your preferences, availabilities and the opportunities for co-teaching, your lectures may cover judicial organisation, principles and rules of jurisdiction, civil procedure (including remedies), the general theory of litigation (guiding principles of procedural law), fair trial theory, debt collection and insolvency law (seizures, enforcement procedures, collective debt settlement), alternative dispute resolutions (ADR) (arbitration, mediation, conciliation, binding third-party decisions, collaborative law) and/or European and international judicial law.You will teach in the various courses of study managed by the Faculty, and may also teach in the (interuniversity) certificates in judicial expertise and mediation. You will also supervise master’s theses.These courses will be taught mainly in Louvain-la-Neuve, and secondarily in Brussels (Saint-Louis campus).
You will develop your research activities, including leading research projects as well as setting up and leading research teams , in the field of Procedural Law, which covers judicial organisation, the principles and rules of jurisdiction, civil procedure (including remedies), the general theory of the trial (guiding principles of Procedural law), fair trial theory, debt collection and insolvency law (attachments, enforcement, collective debt settlement), alternative dispute resolution (ADR) (arbitration, mediation, conciliation, binding third-party decisions, collaborative law) and European and international judicial law.You will be responsible for the supervision of PhD theses.These activities will be developed mainly within the Research Centre for Private Law, and where appropriate in collaboration with other colleagues and research units of the JUR-I Research Institute.
Once tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being a member of a programme committee or examination committee, or having management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. These service activities will be aimed primarily at the institutions and stakeholders of the Judiciary (courts, bar associations, the Notary Federation, Bailiff Chamber, etc.), as well as the High Council of Justice and the Institute of Judicial Training.Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.Who we’re looking for
You have a PhD in Legal Sciences preferably in the field of Procedural Law, and a Master’s degree in Law. An additional master degree is considered an asset.
You have a proven track record in university teaching, with evidence where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.You have completed your experience with doctoral or post-doctoral stays abroad.You are currently practising to an extent compatible with a half-time academic position, or at least have practised, in a significant judicial capacity as a lawyer, magistrate, bailiff or notary.
You are comfortable working as part of a team of academics and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinary.You can communicate in French and English. If this is not the case, you undertake to acquire a command of these two languages within two years of taking up your position. Knowledge of Dutch is required.What we offer
