Description Overview

The Production Team Manager is part of the production management team and manages a team of operators (typically 10–20 people, sometimes more temporarily) responsible for activities across a group of production lines in manufacturing or packing.

Additional reports may include Line Coordinators (packing) and Tool Room Technicians (manufacturing).

Key responsibilities include:

-Achieving safety, quality, volume, cost, and behavioural targets.
-Escalating deviations promptly.
-Managing training, appraisals, attendance reviews, recruitment support, and disciplinary investigations.
-Reporting to the Production Shift Manager and liaising with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Quality) and occasionally external stakeholders.

Scope of the Role

-Manage production line activities to meet the production plan and optimise priorities.
-Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
-Lead investigations and improvement projects related to safety, quality, productivity, cost, or behaviour.
-Maintain and update procedural documentation.Motivate the team to achieve targets (e.g., safety inspections, production plan adherence, cost improvements).
-Conduct reviews, appraisals, and attendance management.
-Develop and implement training plans.
-Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety policies.Act as a role model for safety and quality culture.

Experience Required

 

Essential:

-Numeracy and literacy skills to at least Level 2 (Maths and English).
-Competent in MS Office.
-Working knowledge of workplace safety principles.
-Supervisory experience, ideally in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.
-Demonstrated company core values and performance pillars (or equivalent for external candidates).
-Strong communication skills for internal and occasional external stakeholders.
-Ability to listen and influence others.
 

Desirable:

-5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
-Working knowledge of quality systems in a regulated environment.
-Recognised supervision and/or continuous improvement qualification.
