University of CopenhagenThe University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor, alternatively an Assistant Professor, to the Department of Odontology to commence 1 May 2025 or after agreement. The position is a full-time position and will be permanent (Associate Professor) or limited to 4 years (Assistant Professor).About the Department
We aim to promote health in the population by optimizing diagnostics, prevention and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial areas. Our purpose includes research-based and -integrating teaching to ensure that basic, translational and clinical research reaches clinical practice.We focus on interdisciplinary research across three research sections and collaborate with national and international institutions, municipalities, regional hospitals, private practices, and businesses in the medical field to solve complex challenges regarding interactions between oral and medical diseases. The main body of staff at the Department of Odontology is financed by public funding. The position is affiliated to the subject area of Orthodontics, which is part of the Section of Oral Health, Society and Technology.Information about the Department of Odontology: .About the subject area of Orthodontics
The subject area of Orthodontics is responsible for conducting research and teaching within the field of orthodontics including the Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics, which is also located at the Department of Odontology.Current research within Orthodontics includes craniofacial growth and development, the cervical spine, orofacial function and respiration, and their significance for orthodontic diagnostics and treatment. Additionally, research activities include dental sleep medicine and 3D diagnostics of the craniofacial skeleton, the cervical spine, and the upper airways. Other research topics related to orthodontics are encouraged.Teaching is conducted at both pre-graduate and post-graduate level. The teaching comprises theory as well as clinical exercises and patient treatment. The curriculum currently covers orthodontic diagnostics including craniofacial development and skeletal maturation, treatment principles including patient selection criteria according to the national guidelines for orthodontic treatment. Furthermore, the exercises include orthodontic treatments.Job description
The Associate Professor’s/Assistant Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Original research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • Research-based and research-integrating teaching
  • Course management and examination duties
  • Clinical and theoretical teaching at both pre-graduate and post-graduate level
  • Supervision of pre- and post-graduate assignments and theses
  • Sharing knowledge with society
  • Administrative functions
  • Actively applying for external funding
  • Contribution to a positive working and educational environment

The Assistant Professor will be required to participate in formal pedagogical training programme for Assistant Professors.The Associate Professor will be obligated to undertake research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchersRequired qualifications

Find information about each criterion here: .We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

  • MSc Degree in Dentistry (DDS)
  • Specialist degree in orthodontics (equivalent to a 3-years full time structured programme delivered in universities or institutes with an officially recognized academic affiliation with clinical activity, theoretical education, and research in accordance with Network of Erasmus Based European Orthodontic Postgraduate Programs (NEBEOP)

and Danish regulations: (in Danish) * Fulfilment of the criteria to practice independently in Denmark/EU as a specialist in Orthodontics.

  • PhD in Dentistry or related scientific area
  • Teaching experience in orthodontics at pre- and postgraduate levels
  • Advanced communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Advanced English and Danish skills, written and spoken

Furthermore, applicants for the associate professorship are required to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Pedagogical competencies

Candidates who have obtained the authorization to work as a dentist/specialist in orthodontics in Denmark/EU will be preferred. If you do not have the authorization to work independently as a dentist in Denmark, it must be obtained as soon as possible, as this position entails treatment of patients. International applicants are expected to learn Danish and to speak/understand the language at a sufficient level within a reasonable period. All patient records must be kept in Danish, and Danish is the official language of instruction in the pre-and postgraduate study programmes.

The place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week. The position is permanent for the Associate Professor position and fixed term (4 years) for the Assistant Professor position.Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.Questions
