University of CopenhagenThe University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor to IVH to commence February 2025, or soon thereafter.Information on the Department can be found at:Job descriptionRecent developments in Danish and European agriculture strategies and policies call for interdisciplinary research and development supporting integration of agriculture, nature, climate and environment. The aim of this position is to strengthen the understanding of how livestock-based agri-food systems can become sustainable and keep their production impacts within the planetary boundaries.Danish and European livestock production is therefore up for debate, and it leads to various measures being proposed from different sides and to major changes pointing in the direction of green transformation of livestock systems. Experiences and insights have been gained in interdisciplinary research bridging humanities and veterinary/animal sciences at IVH over the past four years. This position is intended to further anchor and continue interdisciplinary studies and conversations at IVH around sustainability in livestock production. The main task will be to create a solid qualitative research foundation for the realisation of green transformation of the livestock sector, and the implications for sciences and practices in agri-food systems and livestock landscapes. The candidate therefore must be prepared to promote dialogue across key institutions, research fields and traditions, actors and sectors.We are seeking a candidate with a background in social science or humanities with focus on environmental issues, and who has thorough experience with qualitative fieldwork. The candidate will carry out fieldwork-based analyses of and proposals for further research and outreach within sustainable livestock-based and mixed food production systems. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be able to include a historical component to investigate how sustainability and environmental considerations have related to and influenced Danish livestock production throughout time. Finally, the candidate will be expected to take active part in outreach activities at the department, and to lead and participate in seeking funding for research and activities engaging citizens and society more broadly around the topics of the position.The Associate Professor will be associated with the in the .The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers, as well as initiation of new research projects and funding applications
  • Knowledge-sharing with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

To be qualified for an associate professor position, you will be assessed according to these six overall criteria for recognising merit at the University of Copenhagen: Research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding, and leadership.   • Experience with creative public outreach activities

The Associate Professor is required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.Terms of employment
