We are looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic 1:1 Support Mentor to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Preston
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may have faced challenges within mainstream education. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support and small group mentoring, helping students build confidence, develop positive relationships and overcome barriers to learning.
The Role
As a 1:1 Support Mentor, you will work closely with individual students and small groups to provide personalised support and encouragement.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored 1:1 support for students with SEMH needs. Supporting students in small group sessions to develop learning, social skills and confidence. Building positive, trusting relationships with young people. Helping students manage emotions, regulate behaviour and develop coping strategies. Encouraging engagement with learning and school routines. Supporting students to develop resilience, independence and self-esteem. Acting as a positive role model and trusted adult. Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team to support individual needs.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, additional needs or challenging behaviour. Is patient, calm and able to build strong relationships. Has the confidence to support students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups. Can provide consistent boundaries alongside a caring and supportive approach. Has excellent communication skills and a positive attitude. Is passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.
Previous experience as a Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Sports Coach or Residential Support Worker would be highly beneficial.
What We Offer
