The Opportunity
We are looking for an Automation Engineer / Automated Line Owner who will become the key internal reference for a brand-new automated production line.
This is not a traditional maintenance or PLC programming role. The company is searching for a hands-on technical professional capable of taking full ownership of the automated process “end-to-end”: from commissioning and stabilization to continuous improvement, supplier coordination, process optimization, and long-term scalability.
The line is currently transitioning from a predominantly manual process to the company’s first highly automated manufacturing setup. The commissioning phase will begin in summer 2026 and continue through autumn.
The selected candidate will play a central role in building internal automation know-how and supporting the future replication of the production model internationally, including potential projects in the USA.
Main Responsibilities
Production Line Ownership
* Become the internal technical owner of the automated production line
* Oversee the entire automated production flow from raw material preparation to final packaging
* Ensure process stability, production efficiency, and product quality
* Coordinate with international stakeholders and external suppliers for upgrades and technical improvements
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
* Define, monitor, and optimize process parameters and operating standards
* Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives with focus on OEE and LEAN principles
* Support the industrialization and evolution of a modular automated line
Automation Supervision & Technical Support
* Provide first-level technical troubleshooting on automation systems
* Interface with integrators, machine builders, and automation suppliers during commissioning and ramp-up
* Support maintenance strategies and preventive interventions
* Collaborate on future upgrades and scalability projects
Production & Operational Coordination
* Support production teams working alongside automated systems
* Monitor daily production KPIs and operational performance
* Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
Documentation & Know-How Development
* Build internal documentation, SOPs, and technical standards
* Create and transfer automation know-how inside the organization
* Train future operators and technicians
Ideal Profile
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar technical background
* At least 5 years of experience within a production/manufacturing company operating automated industrial lines
* Strong industrial and production mindset with hands-on technical approach
* Experience in continuous process industries such as paper, converting, fiber processing, packaging, or similar sectors is highly appreciated
* Good understanding of industrial automation systems, sensors, conveyors, robotics, actuators, and process equipment
* Basic understanding of PLC logic is sufficient – direct programming expertise is not required
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
* Proven experience working directly on production lines and industrial processes
* Fluent Italian and good English are required
