The Kinross exploration office is located in Sodankylä, approximately 130km north of Rovaniemi. Kinross has been exploring along the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt since 2018, mainly through joint ventures on early-stage projects around the Kittilä mine, Europe’s largest gold mine. Kinross strongly believes that the remaining orogenic gold potential of the belt is significant and sees Lapland as an emerging region for gold exploration.

Purpose of Role

Junior Geologist will assist the Kinross Finland Exploration Oy team with all aspects of exploration fieldwork that will include prospecting and mapping as well as the stripping of outcrops in order to take representative chip and channel samples for gold analysis. Detailed mapping will be conducted on the exposed and washed outcrops.

Job Responsibilities

-Assist with prospecting, mapping and sampling

-50% soil sampling
-30% rock chip sampling (mapping)
-20% geotechnical work (core logging)
 

Qualifications and Skills
-Geology or Geological Engineering student / Recent graduate
-Good interpersonal skills
-Strong work ethic
-Excellent organization skills
-Excellent communication skills
-Knowledge and skill with a PC utilizing office applications
-Previous experience in fieldwork is not mandatory, but it is considered an advantage and can affect the diversity of work tasks
-Safe, responsible and efficient working methods and good teamwork skills
-Willingness to work in the fieldFluent Finnish and English
-B driving license
