Job description

Offer Description– work environment:Medical devices in contact with blood (e.g., artificial valves, extracorporeal circulation, etc.) are used to treat various cardiovascular diseases. Their thrombogenicity (tendency to generate thrombus) remains the main unresolved challenge in their development; although this involves a risk of severe hemorrhagic complications, anticoagulant therapy is always prescribed in conjunction with the use of any biomedical device. Improving the blood-material interaction requires understanding how the presence of an artificial surface disrupts hemostasis, the set of phenomena involved in the blood and surrounding tissues to prevent or allow the cessation of blood flow in the vessels. One important phenomenon in thrombus initiation is platelet margination: these are displaced towards the vessel walls by red blood cells, which concentrate in the core of the flow. IMAG is developing the YALES2BIO software for simulating blood flow. The goal of our project is to replicate the margination phenomenon in silico and assess how much this phenomenon can be reduced by the presence of roughness on the vessel wall.– main mission: Postdoctoral Researcher: Research in Computational Fluid Mechanics– activities:

  • Literature review on numerical methods adapted to non-inertial particulate flows.
  • Implementation of a zero-Reynolds formulation in the YALES2BIO software.
  • Validate and compare the developments with the low-Reynolds solutions currently used in YALES2BIO
