Your role & work environmentCredit Management (CM) is looking for a Senior Credit Risk Officer (SCO) Institutionals and Financial Institutions (FI). CM is responsible for the transaction approval process and portfolio risk management of the Belgian Personal Lending, Business Banking and Wholesale portfolio and is based in Brussels. The department covers all sectors and comprises of approximately 65 FTE.The SCO Institutionals & FI is responsible for the credit process, policy and portfolio for all subsegments serviced by the Institutionals & FI segment and functionally leads the Senior Credit Risk Analyst (SCRA) and virtual team with specialized credit analysts.Your key responsibilitiesYou are responsible for monitoring the Belgian Institutionals & FI book, accountable for the local lending policy, part of the approval process (B3 / B1alt), setting risk appetite and leading the analyst team.Provide leadership

  • Functional management of the CRA in charge of analysis of Institutionals & FI in an energetic and empowering way both in Brussels as well as at the local teams;
  • Participate and/or lead internal projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of CM processes;
  • Create a positive working environment and support learning and growth of individual team members.

Advice and decide

  • Responsible for the analysis, assessment and approval of credit applications/credit movements (new or revisions) of (potential) customers or contribution to this, respecting dedicated limits (sector, RAS, sub-sector etc.);
  • Monitor and report on developments at individual customers and on key credit risk metrics in the total portfolio and manage the Watchlist process in collaboration with the front office;
  • Analyze, approve and assess credit risks in the portfolio or contributes to such assessment.
  • Assume the role of alternate for decision of B1 mixed files and B3 Real Estate Construction Finance files.
  • Give guidance and take ownership of standard and ad hoc credit reports and management information to internal and external stakeholders;

Manage stakeholders

  • Sparring partner and authority for the Belgian Institutionals & FI sector towards front office, Group and other stakeholders in the sector;
  • Advise decision-making bodies and/or regulators about measures to be taken for identified credit risks;
  • Frequently consult with Group, the (virtual) team, Front Office and clients and stay on top of sector trends and developments in the broader ecosystem. Your knowledge feeds into sector outlooks, asset quality reviews and credit risk alerts;

  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in credit risk decision making (min C2 mandate);
  • You have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field of expertise;
  • You’re familiar with the credit decision processes, provisioning and capital requirements;
  • Experience and comfortable in leading topics in a virtual team;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Thorough understanding of banking products, finance, accounting and the regulatory environment;
  • Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management skills;
  • Confident in challenging senior stakeholders and providing independent advice to senior management;
  • Ability to work in a complex and fast paced environment;
  • Possess both problem identification and problem solving skills, involving the appropriate parties;
  • Result-driven with the ability to push forward issues in a persistent and constructive manner;
  • Decisive and resilient;
  • Fluent in French, Dutch and English
