We’re recruiting for a Pig Farm Unit Manager in County Down, Northern Ireland.Our client is one of the leading and most progressive businesses in the Northern Ireland pig sector. The highly regarded company works across numerous sites across the country, specialising in birth to baconenterprise, employing many staff directly on each unit and indirectly with outside farmers’ contracts to finish on their own farms.Due to ongoing expansion within the company, they are looking to recruit a Pig Farm Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be in charge of overseeing and running the unit.About the job role:
- Managing a modern 1700 sow indoor pig breeding herd that keeps weaners up to 35kg.
- Oversee the well-equipped and regularly renovated farm to ensure optimum facilities are available for staff and livestock.
- Operating a wet feeding system for the sows and growing pigs. All feed is bought from the compounder, and no milling is required on-site.
- Working with hybrid Danish and Canadian sows.
- Responsible for a relatively high-input, high-output weekly farrowing system.
Person specifications:
- Experience working with and managing livestock is essential.
- Highly motivated individual with a desire for continuous improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team.
- Passion for farming, determined, keen, capable individual with an excellent eye for detail.
- Experience in working within a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Basic level of English and Maths.
- Good understanding of IT systems, including MS Word and Excel
- Punctual with good time management skills.
Salary guide: £38,000 – £42,000 DOEPlus:
- A bonus scheme
- Shared accommodation on-site if required
- Workplace pension
