The happiness of our employees has proven key to obtaining excellent results and a client who also regards us highly for excellent service.OverviewThe Configuration Management Engineer (CME) is assigned to selected projects and programmes of the Navigation Directorate for all aspects of expert level Configuration (CM) product data and information management. Besides the core tasks in CM, the tasks entail also the responsibility for the continuous oversight for the Navigation Directorate’s (NAV) information and records flow and supports actively the Directorate’s digitalisation activity as part of ESA’s Digital Agenda. This includes control over the Directorate’s (NAV) repositories, tools and information related processes as well as external support services. The direct interface to the Directorate’s internal and external users and steering effectively related administration activities is essential to the task.The CME drives or takes actively part in documenting and reviewing existing and projected new processes related to the use of digital system configuration and documentation systems and other relevant IT tools.The CME tasks include the following regular duties:A. Product and Baseline Configuration support

  • Analyse and contribute to the specification of relevant processes for Segment and System CI identification, verification and control in support of NAV engineering activities.
  • Support implementation and maintain programmatic, contractual and technical Baselines, as well as generation of Baseline Release Notes for technical and system baselines.
  • Contribute to the generation of product documents such as Product Tree, CIDL, ABCL, CSAR and CSR (Configuration Status Report).
  • Follow-up and document product configuration evolutions from as-contracted, as-designed, as-developed, as delivered, as-deployed, as-installed to as-operated.
  • Plan and perform configuration audits, inspections and CI identification.
  • Configure, operate, report from and improve CM databases.

B. Project Change Control support

  • Prepare and follow-up as secretary of an entrusted Configuration Control Board (CCB) including improvement of the CCB Terms of

Reference. * Support processing and disposition of CCB documents for review and approval including improvement of the relevant DMPs (Document Management Plan).

  • Provide status data and maintaining a well-structured record system for relevant CM processes and transactions, Contribute to or maintain entrusted project documentation such as BRN (Baseline Release Note), CISL, DRL and DRDs where requested.
  • Support preparation formal CM requirements for inclusion in industrial contracts.

C. Review supportSupport technical and non-technical project reviews by managing the relevant documentation in tools and provide product CM expertise.

  • Register, distribute and archive documents, as well as provide of reproductions of documents and media.
  • Regular review of the status of documents in the different archive and storage locations and align this information in the
  • Documentation and Configuration Management System database.
  • Generate and maintain the documentation and configuration tracking lists.
  • Support the management of the User Account List to the Directorate’s servers and services.

D. Information Management

  • Define and supervise processes and procedures for information and documentation workflows required for the entrusted project tasks as well as for NAV directorate level workflows.
  • Identify information contents for digitalisation and automated processing.
  • Interface external Documentation Processing Support Services (DPSS) defining detailed procedures and overseeing the execution of the upload and configuration of NAV related information and documentation.
  • Organise document logistics for events such as project reviews, audits and specific contract milestones.
  • Supervise and take corrective actions to maintain quality of document metadata and compliancy with ESA and NAV policies and requirements.
  • Identify information types and records and adequate processes for handling them.
  • Liaise with corporate IT functions for the operation of NAV relevant tools, administration of users, archiving and disposal of records. Generation and maintenance of documentation and configuration tracking lists.
  • Liaising with corresponding data, configuration and documentation functions in Industry, GSA, EC and other external parties who participate in the exchange of documentation with the Agency.
  • Oversee and perform users, account and privileges administration.
  • Management of the User Accounts at the Directorate’s servers and services.
  • Regular interaction with Helpdesks related to IT and interfacing other services as required.

E. Other Tasks

  • Proactive generation and review of document templates, information structures, metadata, system functions, procedures and processes related to the systems in use by end users and the Navigation Documentation and Configuration team.
  • Organization of the Navigation documentation office logistics including, but not limited to procedures, media and ledgers.
  • Support to the Directorate Information and Records Officer (DIRO) in discharging relevant functions such as implementation of the Documents and Record Schedule, as well as ESA’s governance on data, records, archives and data protection.

The CME reports to the Head of the Configuration and Data Management unit. The above tasks must be implemented in line with applicable Directorate’s Engineering and CM processes, ESA standards and the Directorate ISO certified QMS in close collaboration with relevant Configuration Management functions. The work can entail to handle unclassified and classified material.Specific Qualification Requirements

  • University degree (Master) from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent qualification with substantial coverage of configuration, IT and documentation management matters.
  • Directorate’s field of interests.
  • The CME is a professional with excellent knowledge in IT applications and Information Management, DMS, User Management Data Transfer and other related applications including administration and set-up of those.
  • Excellent understanding of modern documentation process flow implementation and proactive attitude to help shaping the evolution of the Navigation DMS.
  • Good knowledge of Product Engineering and Configuration Lifecycle and applicable ISO standards.
  • The work associated to this position might require handling of classified data and documentation in dedicated physical locations.
  • The CME candidate shall confirm to be eligible and willing to apply to a Personal Security Clearance.

  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.

LocationThe work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ( ) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.Contract

  • All employees receive good remuneration in line with function and experience.
