  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
  • You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
  • You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
  • You will counsel doctoral students.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating the anaesthesia service and supervising daily activities.
  • You are responsible for the proper organisation, execution and administrative follow-up of sedations and anaesthetics in function of the clinic operation.
  • You draw up sedation, anaesthesia and analgesia protocols for dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures.
  • You perform sedation and anaesthesia on dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures.
  • You supervise interns and students when performing sedations and anaesthetics in dogs and cats and when performing anaesthesia-related procedures (e.g. IV catheter placement, blood sampling, (non)-invasive blood pressure measurement, anaesthesia monitoring, loco-regional anaesthesia, TIVA, recovery monitoring,…).
  • You supervise students during anaesthesia-related skills labs.
  • You supervise students of the master years in the framework of their master’s thesis.
  • You provide training for interns and supervise them during their scientific internship (if anaesthesia-related).
  • You consult with veterinarians and specialists from other disciplines on post-operative analgesia and analgesia protocols for hospitalised dogs and cats.
  • You cooperate in clinical-scientific research.
  • You participate in the small animal clinic’s anaesthesia on-call service.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree in anaesthesia and/or analgesia. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted.
  • You have already conducted research in the field of anaesthesia and/or analgesia.
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes.
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
  • You obtained a degree of Master in Veterinary Medicine. Diploma requirements must be met at date of appointment.
  • You have at least 4 years of relevant experience and a PhD.
  • You are preferably an ECVAA or ACVAA Diplomate or have completed an ECVAA or ACVAA Residency.
  • You have teaching experience and attended/participate in continuing education, conferences etc. concerning anaesthesia and analgesia of companion animals and related disciplines.
  • You have relevant scientific publications in international and national scientific journals with a wide distribution and expert review of submitted manuscripts.
  • You have didactic and communication qualities.
  • You have an interest in scientific and/or project-based research and service.
  • You have social, organisational and managerial skills. You should be able to work in a team, communicate fluently with staff from different disciplines and of different levels (specialists, veterinarians, veterinary assistants, technical staff and students) and, occasionally, with owners. You must have the necessary flexibility and stress-resistance to change the order of tasks for yourself and others according to service needs.
  • You must be able to communicate fluently in English and be willing to learn Dutch.

  • We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term
  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
  • The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term
  • Your appointment will start on 1 February 2025 at the earliest
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP5.
