Teaching Personnel is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support in a primary school or learning resource base (LRB). If you’re ready to play a pivotal role in helping students reach their potential, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.Role Overview:Job Title: SEMH Teaching AssistantLocation: NewportJob Type: Full-TimeStart Date: 06/01/2025Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm)Key Responsibilities:
- Safeguard and ensure the welfare of children at all times.
- Provide tailored 1:1 support, both in and outside the classroom.
- Assist in designing and implementing personalised interventions and strategies to support emotional and academic growth.
- Promote positive behaviour, self-regulation, and emotional resilience.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and staff to adapt lessons and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
- Support children during unstructured times, such as lunch and break periods.
- Encourage social interactions with peers to foster development of social skills.
- Build trusting, positive relationships with students and act as a role model.
What We’re Looking For:
- Relevant qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- A clear Enhanced DBS check and EWC registration.
- A driving license is preferred but not required.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
- Previous experience working with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally in an educational or care environment.
- Patient, proactive, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour and know when to seek support.
