The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a research assistant to the Calcium Signalling Laboratory as per 1 February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 2 years.The Department of Biomedicine prioritises diversity and a good work environment, as this is a prerequisite for groundbreaking research. You can read more about the department and about the faculty .Your job responsibilitiesAs Research Assistant, your primary task is to assist researchers with their scientific projects, including both routine laboratory work as well as small collaborative (but self-driven) projects. This involves animal experiments and manipulations, colony management and genotyping PCRs as well as molecular biology and microscopy work. You will contribute to the development of the department through research and teaching of high international quality. In your daily work, you will have a close interaction with competent colleagues, including research and core facility staff.Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Assisting students and postdoctoral researchers in the laboratory with their scientific research. This includes routine tasks, such as mouse colony management, inventory, preparation of shared buffers/reagents, and work in the animal stables
  • Partaking in small self-driven but collaborative research projects (e.g., completing a small research project that contributes to an ongoing manuscript or helping to cover key experiments during times of parental leave)
  • Laboratory-based teaching and supervision (e.g., with bachelor students and incoming PhD students and postdocs)

You will report to the Associate Professor Felicity M Davis tel.: (+45) 4121 0065Your competencesYou have Master’s degree with a strong background within the areas of signal transduction and/or cell biology and significant experience with mouse studies (including an existing or transferable animal license). Core competencies include – animal experimentation (handling, breeding, injections), molecular biology (conventional and quantitative PCR, immunofluorescence, immunoblotting) and mammalian cell culture (including primary cells). Ideally, the candidate would also have experience with confocal microscopy and histology. As a Research Assistant, a background designing and performing self-driven experiments would be highly valued.As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
