The opportunity:

To lead the sites HR function in providing professional guidance and support to employees and managers in matters relating to; policies/procedures, employment legislation, employee relations, recruitment, employee engagement, performance management, training and development, statutory compliance, organisational design and talent management. This is a multi-site role managing the Wrexham and Bourne sites.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Business Excellence

  • Adopt an HR business partner approach to delivering HR services to all sites within remit

  • Responsible for providing proactive, effective and efficient HR advice, coaching and guidance to senior management, line managers and staff within a multi-site unionised environment

  • Work closely with site leadership teams to develop and drive people plans aimed at promoting an engaged and highly productive workforce

  • Achieving all objectives both strategic and operational

  • Leading/driving talent mapping, development, succession planning projects to meet business/HR strategy

  • Lead and deliver HR projects and change initiatives in relation to sites

  • Be the HR lead to the sites employee engagement and recognition programs

  • Lead the talent acquisition process, providing HR support to the recruitment process

  • Manage a range of casework (absence, disciplinary and grievance) and ensuring that cases are managed effectively to deliver optimum outcomes whilst keeping abreast of any associated risks

  • Encourage and promote good working relationship with external bodies e.g. Local Schools/Colleges/Universities and other learning establishments, funding bodies tapping into available funding to help support training budget costs and Government bodies

  • Lead and deliver HR training initiatives within current capabilities

  • Set up and support ongoing communication channels with Management and employees with HR taking active involvement in any communication meetings

  • Monitor Age profile, highlight areas of concern to main stakeholders and provide possible solutions to bridge any gaps

  • Analyse/interpreting monthly HR KPIu2019s, providing steps to improve where deemed necessary

  • Driving the performance management and appraisal processes on site to ensure maximum completion and that development plans are actioned

  • Manage compensation and benefits activity for sites

People and Culture

  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills to establish credibility and respect whilst building strong working relationships

  • Support the employee engagement survey process, lead the roll out of the survey and drive the action planning process in conjunction with the site leadership teams to ensure that engagement is a high priority action.

  • Engage in professional development activities to develop and maintain skills and knowledge of HR and employment law issues, for example, attending relevant external network events and employment law briefing sessions

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor degree in HR or Business related subject, or equivalent experience

  • CIPD qualified or working towards

  • Good knowledge of UK Employment law

  • Exposure to a unionized environment is desirable

  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrable communication and influencing skills

  • Ability to challenge and debate issues in a constructive manner

  • Ability to support empowered employees in a team environment

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills

  • Able to demonstrate continuous improvement in a previous role
