Job title:
PhD position Robotic 3D Printing
Company:
TU Delft
Job description
Join Us to Unlock the Potential of Robotics for 3D Printing!Job description
The proposed PhD project will focus on advancing robotic fabrication by integrating multi-axis robotic systems with 3D printing principles, enabling the creation of complex geometries and large-scale structures that surpass the limitations of traditional Cartesian 3D printing. The research will investigate innovative material deposition strategies, toolpath generation algorithms, and adaptive control systems to enable robots to print continuous, non-planar forms with enhanced precision and flexibility. By leveraging the unique capabilities of multi-axis printing, the project aims to unlock new possibilities in digital fabrication and push the boundaries of what can be achieved in large-scale additive manufacturing. This project is part of an NWO funded initiative titled Space-time Optimization for Additive Manufacturing, which aims to develop and experimentally validate computational design methods that exploit the flexibility of multi-axis printing to achieve superior manufacturing quality. The PhD candidate will work within a multidisciplinary research team spanning computational science, mechanical engineering, and industrial design. Collaboration with industrial partners in the manufacturing sector will offer opportunities for real-world testing and application of the developed methodologies. The overarching goal is to advance additive manufacturing by integrating novel structural design and process planning, ensuring more efficient, scalable, and high-quality fabrication solutions. While this position is primarily intended for PhD candidates, exceptional applications for postdoctoral researchers will also be considered. Postdoctoral candidates should have a proven track record of published research in robotics, 3D printing, and/or computational design.Job requirements
