WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITYDuring the internship you will be part of the Customs Integration Platform team – we develop tools for the customs clearance process for importing and exporting goods by ensuring that all customs requirements are met. Digitization and IT are taking centre stage in enabling our customers to trade globally, and we are building our core products in-house.With one of these tools, Maersk Classify we are looking at how to apply AI, Machine Learning and big data to the customs space so that it can help with tariff classification in the future.You can read more about what we’re doing with Maersk Classify on this LinkedIn post by Lars, our Global Head of Trade & Customs Consulting at Maersk A.P.:As Lars says, “poor data in means poor data out”. An intern on our team will make a significant contribution to improving our data and building sound AI solutions so that our ML algorithms can produce accurate classification results.WHAT WE OFFERYou will be given real responsibility and ownership of your tasks during the internship, which means that you will be an important part of our experienced team facing the same challenges as them.You will have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from the product owner who is also based in Copenhagen. Our team is international with team members based in Copenhagen, London, and India, and important stakeholders based in Sweden and USA. We believe that giving everyone a chance to be heard is the best way to achieve great results.WHAT YOU WILL DOThe internship is for a Junior Data Engineer, and it will consist of mainly working with our classification data. You will be expected to clean up, synthesise and optimise our data, ideally utilising scripts and automation whenever possible or going through it manually with attention to detail whenever necessary.However, the role will also involve other smaller tasks such as writing Python scripts, unit testing in Python, working with database data ingestion scripts and more.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORStudying towards a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent.Coding skills, such as Python, Java, C, or other language.Accuracy, attention to detail, and patience.Good communication skills in English, as our team is international, and team members are based in different time zones.Desire to learn and curiosityDesirable but not required:Background in Python and SQL, including experience with data manipulationKnowledge of Data Engineering, and Data ScienceKnowledge of AI large language models, and Machine LearningMaersk is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we embrace different styles of thinking.
