In this position you will be part of an interdisciplinary team and teach within the programme Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design within the department MA Ecology Futures, led by Adriana Knouf, pathway leader Ecology Futures.You will bring along a vision on climate fiction writing, combined with knowledge of eco-philosophy and digital media studies. You will undertake an appropriate balance of teaching, thesis supervision, assessment, course and curriculum development and related administration. Our highly ambitious and versatile institution is currently in a stage of development. The expanded pedagogical scope of the programme has created new opportunities for interdisciplinarity and co-research within our pathways in Visual Arts and Post-Contemporary Practice, Situated Design, Health by Design and Ecology Futures. Students work together to address urgent global challenges of the twenty-first century, investigating research questions on visual & contemporary culture, politics, media, migrant aesthetics and ecological degradation.We support students by providing a learning environment for a transformative education, empowering them to become the new generation of creative leaders who will contribute in unconventional ways to transforming the complex and interconnected world we live in. By creating a unique educational environment, where the tradition of studio practices sits at ease with practices driven by ideas and context, and through an interchange of ideas, artists, designers and scientists together, create new knowledge to tackle some of the most pressing and challenging societal issues of our time.Your place as a tutor within Avans Creative InnovationYour place as a tutor within Avans Creative InnovationThe Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design is the graduate programme of Avans Creative Innovation, which is part of the Avans University of Applied Sciences. Our programme is housed within a single campus location, close to the heart of the city of ‘s Hertogenbosch. It is a locally grounded international community of learning and research. Each year, around 50 students from all over the world join our programme.The Master of Arts in Fine Art & Design is committed to adopting new technical advancements in interactive and creative technologies. Our outstanding workshop and technical facilities provide courses in data visualisation, VR/AR, web design related coding, non-linear immersive and iterative storytelling, spatial & location design, and interactive media – as well as access to workshops across film & photography, print, wood, ceramics and metal, which allow students to immerse themselves in innovative artistic development projects.We offer youWe offer youAn environment where you have the freedom to discover and improve things; This is how we get the best out of you.   • A monthly salary of a minimum of € 4.361 to a maximum of € 6.114 gross for a full­ time appointment (scale 11 collective labor agreement for higher professional education). In accordance with the collective labor agreement, salaries will be increased by 4% as of January 1, 2025.
  • An end-of-year bonus, which is approximately equal to a thirteenth month.
  • An appointment for 1 year. With good performance, an extension is a possible.
  • A good work-life balance and pleasant workplaces.
  • Approximately 50 days off per year with a full-time appointment and a 40-hour workweek.

You fit right inYou fit right inYou have a background in creative and/or fiction writing, as well as knowledge of eco-philosophy. You will be a committed educator and able to bring knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm to the delivery of the programme. You will contribute to curriculum development and delivery and add to the evolving research profile of our institute. You will have strong experience of contemporary art and design practices and be familiar with theoretical and practical approaches to current social issues and able to develop knowledge frameworks that understand our entanglement with environmental, social and cultural factors. You facilitate a high-quality learning environment, communicate a broad range of theoretical issues through hands-on teaching, thesis supervision, lectures and seminars. You inspire and motivate students, designing activities appropriate at master level.You will have a master’s degree and preferably a PhD, recent experience of higher education teaching, and detailed knowledge of contemporary climate episteme research that connects to theoretical issues within the wider field of art and design, as well as having a developing research profile. You are internationally oriented and will bring knowledge, vision and industry network to develop new opportunities within the master programme. Additionally, you have:

  • A master’s degree and preferably a PhD in a related subject.
  • Recent experience of higher education teaching.
  • Recent experience of educational and administrative management.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Availability to teach on Wednesdays.
