Job description

Offer DescriptionWe are looking for a highly motivated technician to work on a genomics and sequence data analysis project. The successful candidate will be part of the following research project: ‘Generating Reference Genomes for Five Protected Marine Species in the Balearic Islands.’ The project will generate genomes and transcriptomes from different marine species in line with the ERGA (European Reference Genome Atlas) and BGE (Biodiversity Genomics Europe) standards to be used for future reference. We are seeking a flexible candidate who is able to work collaboratively with other scientists on the project. Generating reference genomes provides a comprehensive insight into the genetic basis of each species and is a powerful resource for understanding how biodiversity functions. The project aims to generate high quality reference genomes of iconic and protected marine species in the Balearic Islands. The genomes will provide relevant in-depth information about the species, including their biology and functional genetics which may prove crucial in order to improve management and conservation measures. The selected candidate will take part in the following tasks for generating and processing sequencing results: 1) wet lab sample processing for whole genome sequencing, 2) processing and analysing Illumina and Nanopore sequences, and 3) genome assembly and gene annotation. The successful candidate will join the genome lab team working at the Balearic Centre for Biodiversity (CBB) at the UIB, located in Parc Bit (Palma), under the supervision of Dr Lluís Moragues Solanas. They will also be supervised by and collaborate with the bioinformatics team at the CBB, as well as the National Genome Analysis Centre (CNAG).PI: Dr. Lluís Moragues SolanasFunding body: Direcció General de Recerca, Desenvolupament Tecnològic i Innovació.
