The Implementation Project Manager Lab Automation, works in the EMEA Professional Services team within IDS (Integrated Diagnostic Solutions) and its purpose is to successfully deliver implementations of IDS complex solutions within the clinical market. The Project Manager leads cross-functional project teams, drives relation and requirements with customers and is responsible for managing internal project arrangements.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • The Implementation Project Manager leads the cross-functional team and activities in installing new BD Lab Automation Solutions, Molecular Solutions and Integrated Diagnostic Solutions at customer sites.

  • He/she is responsible for leading all aspects of the project from purchase order through successful completion of the handover to Lifecycle Management Phase and may also participate in the Sales Phase of a project.

  • The Implementation Project Manager is measured on his/her ability to lead the team in achieving schedule, functionality, stability and performance goals of the project. Projects led by a Implementation Project Manager can have varying degrees of complexity, usually including one or more aspects of hardware, software, and/or network as part of scope, and are typically more-dimensional, having complex boundaries that require in-depth lab industry knowledge.

  • Indirectly supervising a cross functional team of typically 4-6 people from expert functions on Application, Informatics/IT, Installation, Field Service and/or R&D.

  • Aligning and managing all cross-functional activities to deliver the product on time and on budget per contract while meeting agreed technical, operational, business and customer requirements

  • Leading successful project reviews, escalating risks/ issues/concerns of the team as appropriate

  • Ensuring quality, reliability, stability of the system including acceptance of product by intended customers

  • Completing accurate and timely reporting, e.g. dashboard report and updates business databases

  • Establishing relationships with key customers and stakeholders who can help to influence the carry out of the project and/or removing blocks

  • Anticipating areas where support or influence will be required, involving key BD stakeholders in the process when required

  • Contributing to the continuous improvement in IDS’ ability to execute programs and projects from initiation through launch

  • Taking care of the road map including planning, budget, customer specific arrangements as well as documenting into a Project Plan/Technical Design Study

  • Consulting the customer regarding Lab Information Systems / IT Infrastructure and utilities (building interior, power connection, air, etc.)

  • Conducting technical and organizational programs implementation at clients using various methods (LEAN, change management, etc.)

  • Taking the project through project closeout, including the transition of the system into normal business operations or Life Cycle Management processes

Requirements (Qualifications, Experience, Skills, Competencies)

  • You have a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field or alternatively an MBA and holds a project management certification on level PRINCE2 practitioner/PMI – PMP/IPMA level C or D.

  • A certification for change management is a pré.

  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience within project management and ideally, you provide customer facing and/or people management experience.

  • Furthermore experience within the regulated environment of the medical device or pharmaceutical industry or first knowledge of IT systems and architecture, work processes of microbiological laboratories will be advantageous.

  • Further requirements are:

  • You are a conceptual thinker with the ability to communicate in a manner that inspires widespread commitment and ensures the team’s vision and direction remains consistent with the project objectives

  • You are able to conceptualize large complex problems into constituent components as well as integrate numerous complex data to derive clear and actionable information

  • You are a hands-on, mature and strong leader with the skills and knowledge to engage, influence and direct all functions involved in the development of the assigned project

  • You inhibit a strong cross-functional perspective which results in the ability to understand and articulate key cross-functional technical challenges and solutions that impact the project

  • You have a strong result and customer orientation, understand the customers environments and constraints, customer processes, workflows and unmet needs and are able to find a solution to fulfill them

  • You show the ability to drive the identification, validation and mitigation planning of all project risks, based on thorough understanding of the technical and business content of the integrated project plan and the work breakdown

  • You strive towards teamwork and hold a genuine intention to work cooperatively with others, be part of a team and to work towards a commonly understood goal

  • You inhibit a high personal effectiveness, stress resistance as well as the ability to work cross-functionally within the project team and in a complex metric and cross business unit organization

  • Fluency in English and German or French is a must.

  • Due to the nature of this function is not a 8 to 5 weekday job, you must be willing and able to travel on a regular basis within the assigned area (up to 50%)
