The Trust is Reading’s biggest employer and is among the hospitals training medical students from the new Brunel Medical School. The Trust is beginning a major modernisation of its services and its buildings. Our dual objective is to develop and deliver outstanding NHS services that are fit for the future, and to play a greater part in the growth and development of our local economy. This long-term, modernisation programme will see the investment of hundreds of millions of pounds over the course of the next ten years and will involve every one of our public and private sector partners. Further information about this plan can be found via the Trust’s website or via the Building Berkshire Together digital platform: Home – Building Berkshire Together New Hospital ProgrammePlease note the Simulation date is 05th December 2024 and the Interview date is 18th December 2024.Main duties of the jobThe hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital. The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Paediatrics (including a NICU), General medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, Intensive care and Gastroenterology), Radiotherapy and Oncology, and all the general surgical specialities, including a Bariatric service. The trust provides several services Berkshire-wide (e.g. Ophthalmology, renal). Following the principle of care closer to home, the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust offers services from many locations, including King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor, Windsor dialysis unit, West Berkshire Community Hospital, Royal Berkshire Bracknell Healthspace, Townlands Hospital Henley and there are visiting clinics in Wallingford and Wantage.About usThe hospitals have five operating suites including a total of twenty-one theatres allowing a throughput of ~20,000 cases each year. All theatres (except theatre 12) have anaesthetic rooms and each suite has fully staffed recovery facilities. As part of the consolidation plan there has been an expansion of operating facilities in the South Wing theatres and the development of a larger recovery area and provision for higher monitored care within the recovery room. In 2020 there was significant investment in anaesthetic equipment with complete replacement of all TIVA pumps, anaesthetic machines (Maquet Flow-C and Flow-I machines) and fully integrated and portable Philips monitoring. The anaesthetic equipment is of a very high standard and fully complies with minimal monitoring standards. We were one of the first cohort of hospitals in the UK to move to a model of universal video-laryngoscopy. The equipment across the Trust is uniform and we have on- site maintenance. In 2021 we moved to a paperless theatre environment, including electronic anaesthetic records, with full integration with our Cerner electronic patient record.Date posted30 October 2024Pay schemeHospital medical and dental staffGradeConsultantSalary£105,504 to £139,882 a year per annumContractPermanentWorking patternFull-timeReference number193-CON1552PCGJob locationsRoyal Berkshire Foundation Trust HospitalLondon RoadReadingRG1 5ANJob descriptionJob responsibilities
