Company DescriptionEurofins TMFI is a forensic services laboratory which not only provides in-house DNA services but also provides access to a wide range of other (analytical) services. Eurofins TMFI currently has three locations and is developing rapidly: the forensic operation is located in Maastricht and Amsterdam and (legal) DNA relationship testing is provided from Gouda under the trade name Verilabs. Eurofins TMFI is a relatively small but rapidly growing and professionalizing organization within the network of Eurofins laboratories. The dynamic organization currently consists of approximately 55 ambitious employees and has a strong ambition aimed at providing maximum support to the Dutch criminal justice system with innovative, flexible and customer-oriented solutions.For our location in Maastricht we are looking for an experienced Forensic DNA Analyst to support the current team which conducts high throughput DNA profiling of crime stain and reference samples. The individual will be required to work flexibly and communicate effectively to deliver results within contractual turnaround times and to the highest quality standards.Job Description

• Full STR profiling of crime scene, reference, cold case and other DNA samples as required across a range of routine and specialist techniques and technologies in accordance with good lab practice (GLP) and quality systems;
• Completing analysis of DNA profiles using GeneMapper IDX software;
• End to end sample management, maintenance of chain of custody;
• Responsible for maintaining a first time right approach to work, reporting any non-conformances or near misses to the local quality systems and implementing process improvements;
• Proactive approach to Continuous Improvement (CI) within all aspects of the role; striving to improve output and efficiency of both scientific and support tasks;
• Communicate effectively to team members and team leads to ensure a smooth flow of work through the laboratory process;
• Work in accordance with Eurofins values of customer focus, competence and team spirit, quality and integrity.
• General housekeeping: laboratory cleaning, maintenance of equipment and monitoring stock levels;

Qualifications

• Qualification in technical/life sciences;
• Experience of working in a high throughput, highly regulated forensic laboratory environment for a minimum of 3 years;
• Experience of conducting DNA analysis, including extraction, quantification, PCR and CE in an ISO17025 accredited laboratory;
• Knowledge of DNA profiling to include autosomal DNA testing (eg NGM SElect/GlobalFiler), Y-Chromosome testing, Mitochondrial DNA testing, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism’s (SNP’s) and future technologies including interpretation software packages;
• Comprehensive understanding of the role of forensic services providers within the criminal justice system;
• Understanding of Quality Control and Quality Management systems.
• Strong analytical skills;
• A proactive attitude and hands-on mentality;
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to transfer knowledge to a wide audience.
• Good knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• English (mandatory), Dutch (preferable)
