About the roleMaersk Energy Markets (MEM) is looking for a Renewable Fuel Portfolio Analyst to help accelerate the growth and optimization of Maersk’s rapidly expanding renewable fuels portfolio.MEM is part of the Energy Transition Division in Maersk made up of 150+ dedicated colleagues working on realizing Maersk’s ambitious 2040 Net Zero strategy. With offices in New York, Singapore, Rotterdam, Geneva and Copenhagen, MEM is responsible for delivering cost-competitive energy to Maersk, including but not limited to marine fuel, aviation fuel, and carbon allowances. MEM creates value through asset optimization and acts as a best-in-class fuel supplier to more than 200 ports globally and approx. 750 vessels. We source more than 10 million metric tonnes of fuel annually to our Ocean segment from external suppliers and via our own supply chain. Through our commitment to become net-zero in 2040, our fuel mix will gradually turn green. This position will be part of driving the transition journey.We offerAn exciting position based in Copenhagen where you will be part accelerating the uptake of biofuels, green methanol, bioLNG and other renewable marine fuels. You will report into the Head of Market Analysis and work alongside a team of dedicated analysts. You will embed into our Renewable Fuels Trading & Originations teams to unlock trading value, support origination activities, and drive regulatory optimization through cost efficient fuel deployment.Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Green Fuel Portfolio to design and implement an effective operating model for the deployment of renewable fuels across Maersk’s global fleet of vessels.
- Develop comprehensive fuel supply strategies that align with the renewable fuel demand from various centers, including customer solutions (ECO Delivery), regulatory demands, and Maersk’s Science-Based Targets.
- Work in partnership with data specialists and Bunker Planning teams to operationalize the renewable fuel portfolio. This involves establishing objectives and key results (OKRs) for the portfolio, and ensuring ongoing progress monitoring through robust data collection and support processes.
- Take a leading role in advancing the regulatory optimization program for EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime to ensure cost effective deployment of renewable fuels to achieve compliance.
- Support the development of strategic responses to current and upcoming regulatory frameworks, aiming to accelerate the adoption of renewable fuels.
- Analyze compliance costs within regulatory demand centers and identify the most cost-efficient renewable fuels in the portfolio to deliver optimal outcomes at lowest possible cost.
- Analytical support to the Trading & Origination teams with long-term offtake agreements and deal making activities, and ensure business cases are realized by efficient fuel allocation in Maersk’s global network.
- Enhance the knowledge hub for green methanol and the carbon market to support informed decision-making and strategic initiatives.
Who we are looking for
- Minimum five years of work experience from Analytics or Consulting roles.
- Experience in working with financial optimization or network optimization problems.
- Advanced Excel modelling capabilities.
- Skilled in structuring and processing large datasets, with a strong ability to translate operational constraints into optimization model parameters.
- Understanding of key regulations impacting the maritime sector such as EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime.
- Expertise on greenhouse gas emission calculation concepts (WTW, TTW and WTT) and energy density conversions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communications skills.
- Ability to prioritize and perform effectively in an area with high complexity and ambiguity.
- Commercial acumen and creative mindset with an eye for detail.
- Excellent communication skills in English. Danish is not required.
Additionally, we would value:
- Awareness regulatory framework for low carbon fuels outside EU.
- Expertise with voluntary and national sustainability certification schemes such as ISCC-EU.
