Offer DescriptionTitle and description of the project:The impact of the war on social movements in EuropeThe Russian full-scale invasion in 2022 has had a profound impact on social movements in both Ukraine and Poland. In order to study how exactly and for how long the war has affected social movements, we will create a dataset of organisations that engaged in street protests in these countries in 2021-23. We will also interview selected organisations, as it is extremely important to listen to the actors themselves and understand their adaptation strategies.Tasks:

  • Involvement in the preparation of the theoretical scheme and research tools
  • Participation in the development of the data collection algorithm, data collection and creation of the dataset
  • Assistance in the development of interview documentation and in the organisation of interviews
  • Participation in conducting interviews
  • Involvement in the analysis of quantitative data
  • Involvement in the analysis of qualitative data
  • Participation in the preparation of scientific articles and research reports

  • Enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and/or doctoral studies in social sciences or humanities in Poland
  • Proven interest in the area of social movements, mobilization and protests, for example, authorship of publications in this or related areas
  • A minimum of 1 year of proven research experience, such as participation in scientific projects, workshops and scientific trainings
  • Experience creating datasets, knowledge of quantitative methods (particularly survival/event history analysis) and/or qualitative methods (conducting interviews and analyzing them)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and familiarity with specialized software (Stata, MaxQDA or similar)
  • Fluency in English at a level that allows reading and writing scientific texts in this language
  • Fluency in Polish at a level that allows reading and writing scientific texts in this language
  • Team-oriented and good communication skills
  • Fluency in Ukrainian language is welcome

  • Scientific CV including qualifications, previous experience, scientific and research achievements, awards and honors resulting from scientific research

  • A certificate confirming the active status of a doctoral student at a doctoral school or an active status of a student in Poland

  • Scholarship contract for a period of 12 months from January 1st 2025 with the possibility of extension for a total of 18 months (probationary period of 3 months)

Eligibility criteriaFormal criteria:

  • Candidate’s scientific achievements, including publications in renowned publishing houses/scientific journals – 50% of the final grade;
  • Achievements resulting from conducting scientific research, scholarships, awards and scientific experience gained in Poland or abroad, scientific workshops and training, participation in research projects – 20% of the final grade;
  • Competences to carry out specific tasks in the research project – 30% of the final grade.
