VHIR offers a position for a postdoctoral researcher in the research group on neuromuscular and mitochondrial diseases. This researcher will be in charge of giving qualified scientific support to several active research projects of the research group, especially the research line devoted to the study of mitochondrial translation disorders. In addition, the hired researcher will contribute to the scientific management and development of the research group.Education and qualifications:Required:
- PhD degree in the field of biosciences
- Official certificate authorising work with experimental animals (mice)
- Oral and written fluency in Catalan, English and Spanish
Experience and knowledge:Required:
- Experience in the field of mitochondrial disorders, especially mitochondrial translation disorders, and gene therapy, accredited by authorship of scientific publications and/or scientific meeting communications.
- At least 5 years of experience in conducting experimental procedures with mice.
- Knowledge, experience, and full autonomy in:
- Molecular biology general methods (PCR, qPCR, SDS-PAGE, BN-PAGE, etc.)
- Real-time qPCR
- Assessment of enzyme activity in biological samples through spectrophotometry, specifically determination of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex activities.
Desired:
- Authorship of scientific articles in the field of biomedicine.
- Experience in the field of preclinical use of AAV-based gene therapy.
- Participation in mitochondrial-focused and/or gene therapy-focused local and international meetings through oral or poster presentations.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- The researcher will be responsible for the development of research lines focused on mitochondrial translation disorders and preclinical testing of AAV-based gene therapy.
- To design experiments and procedures in the context of the group’s research projects.
- To conduct experiments with full autonomy.
- To be responsible for maintenance and management of mouse colonies.
- To teach BSc, MSc and PhD students and give support for their supervision.
- To write scientific articles.
- To give support in design and writing of research projects and follow-up reports of active projects.
- To give support to other research duties in the laboratory.
Labour conditions:
- Full-time position: 40 h/week
- Starting date: Immediate
- Gross annual salary: Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale
- Contract: Technical and scientific activities contract linked to the project activities
