We offer a challenging job within a dynamic and ambitious program, where business development is a priority of each of the partners.About the National Growth Fund “RobotLab: the revolution of intelligent molecular systems”The NGF project: “De Revolutie van Zelfdenkende Moleculaire Systemen” (in short Big Chemistry) is a collaborative program between scientists from Radboud University (RU), the University of Groningen (RUG), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), AMOLF and Fontys Hogeschool. Within Big Chemistry, RobotLab company will be the vehicle for valorisation of the expert knowledge at RU, RUG, TU/e, AMOLF and Fontys. With this grant, the Netherlands will position itself as a global leader in the field of chemical robotics combined with artificial intelligence. Central to the research plan is the construction of a Robot Lab, combining chemical research, high throughput technology (robotics), and artificial intelligence (big data + self-learning systems). This will lead to a lab where all processes are automated and connected to each other. Furthermore, the AI components in the lab allow the development of new chemical products or formulations to be based more on big data and systematic analysis and less on intuition and trial and error. In short: the chemistry practiced in this RobotLab is faster, better, and more reliable.About the positionA successful business development professional finds synergies between the academic partners, RobotLab and industry. We are looking for a candidate with a degree in chemical sciences and experience with commercial applications. Good communication skills and an ability to work in a team are essential. Partnerships are key – whether internal or external. This will require you to leverage your knowledge of both AI and your overview of the market, the funding landscape and your business development skills. The position requires broad insight about activities in AI, chemical industry, as well as a detailed understanding of research agreements and patent development strategies.Responsibilities of a business developer in an academic research environment
- Build and maintain relationships with industry, academic and funding partners;
- Create alliances between academic and industrial partners to support the research activities or technology development of Big Chemistry Investigators;
- Evaluate new research results for their commercial and clinical potential, including completing IP assessments, initiating and managing IP protection activities for such research output;
- Market analysis and development of marketing campaigns to valorize new research results;
- Drafting and negotiating agreements (CDA/JDA/MTA/Research/license) to valorize new research results, including post-agreement management.
- Assisting with setting up new ventures, based on IP generated by Big Chemistry investigators
- Maintain and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders, including KTO’s and funders.
Job Requirements
- Affinity with chemical scientific research;
- PhD chemistry is a pre;
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, prospecting and closing skills;
- Good organization skills and a team player with a ‘can do’ attitude;
- Independent, self-directing and excellent communication skills;
- Good command of the English language, at least passive knowledge of Dutch is a plus;
- Enthusiastic and easy connector with excellent negotiation skills;
- Multi-tasking and prioritization capability;
- Between 5 and 10 years of working experience in a business development or licensing role in chemical sector. Industry experience (licensing or early-stage technology scouting) or academic technology transfer is preferred.

- You start with a one-year contract with the prospect of permanent employment.
- The position will require employment for 0.8 – 1.0 FTE.
- The gross starting salary per month based on a 38-hour working week will start at salary scale 12 (see Salarisschalen | Universiteiten van Nederland) with the prospect of possible promotion.
- You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
