As the policy officer education you will make a crucial contribution to the management and quality of education at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. You will be involved in the process of translating TU/e’s and department’s educational vision in a workable educational policy. Your focus will be on educational processes related to curriculum development and innovation.About the positionThe Policy advisor of the department Mathematics and Computer Science supports the Education Management team (EMT) at an organizational, tactical and strategic level. In close consultation with the manager ESA you will be responsible for both collecting and providing management information to the Educational Director. Next to this you will be drawing up and adjusting policy in collaboration with the Educational Director and the Manager ESA in such a way that when the policy is implemented it will not only help teachers in their daily work, but also will optimize the educational programs. In addition, the preparation of meeting agendas, documents and presentations of the EMT will be part of your core tasks.You are the ‘spider in the web’ and will carry out all activities in cooperation with the Educational director and the manager ESA. In your day-to-day work, you will often coordinate with other departmental policy officers next to being a member of the central policy advisor chain. Other important partners in your work are the quality assurance officer, the examination and program committees of the department, the program coordinators, and of course all the other ESA-colleagues. Good communication – in a clear and concise way -both internally as externally is paramount and therefor an important part of your job. You are capable of taking on different roles, varying from advisor to expert, but the focus is on being a decisive process facilitator.Within our department you will be part of the department’s Policy & Quality team. You will report to the supervisor of this team.Within this team, your tasks will encompass:

  • Translate strategical and tactical university policy and regulation into departmental education policy and regulation, and policies on topics such as quality assurance, assessment, and internationalization.
  • Coordinate the process of setting up yearly reports and regulations, such as the Program and Examination Regulations of each educational program and the annual reports on education.
  • Support and advise the Educational director. prepare the EMT meetings, and are responsible for a good substantiation.
  • Play a proactive and policy supportive role in the strategy development and annual cycle of educational strategy.
  • Prepare external audits, i.e. prepare documentation for the regular educational accreditation committees.
  • Play a role in TU/e wide education policy projects and be an active member of the policy chain.

Job requirements

  • You have an academic working and thinking level with preferably a MSc in a field relevant to this position.
  • You have a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in an institute for higher education.
  • You have knowledge and experience in policy making.
  • You have highly developed analytical and conceptual skills; this allows you to determine relevant stakeholders in decision making processes.
  • You have the ability to ‘translate’ complex matters into pragmatic solutions.
  • You are a team player.
  • You can organize and create a broad basis for support in a convincing manner.
  • You are experienced in translating various mindsets and interests towards a consistent and uniform policy.
  • You have good organizing and planning skills.
  • You are proficient in English (C1 level) and Dutch (C1) in terms of oral communication and have a concise and accessible writing style in both languages.
  • You can easily think in processes which results in a proactive and result-oriented support tot the EMT.
  • You have knowledge of, and experience with working in a dynamic and governance-political environment.

Conditions of employmentWe offer:

  • A (0,8-1,0 fte) position with a gross month salary in the range of € 4,492,- and €6,148,- full time (Policy Advisor 3, scale 11) based on your education and experience.
  • A temporary contract for one year. It is our intention to convert this temporary contract to permanent employment after one year, conditional on good performance and unchanged economic circumstances.
