The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University (DCM) invites applications for a position as Professor in the field of Experimental Clinical Radiobiology as per 1 April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a permanent full-time position.As a professor at DCM you will be part of a large health science research department. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental radiotherapy, surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master’s degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. You can read more about DCM and about the faculty .As a professor, your place of work will be at the research unit of Experimental Clinical Oncology (ECO) at the Hospital Department of Oncology, at Aarhus University Hospital.Your job responsibilities Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital has a long history of radiotherapy research and is jointly an international leader in the development and implementation of modern radiation oncology. This takes place within a broad integrated environment of biological, physical and clinical research, all leading to more precise and effective treatments with minimal side-effects. Within this scenario, we seek a professor to lead the research in pre-clinical and translational radiobiology, to further develop a leading-edge program of radiobiology research, and to deliver high quality research in order to support the optimal future of radiotherapy.As Professor in Experimental Clinical Radiobiology, you will have joint responsibility for the development of related research and teaching environment, and you will contribute to the implementation of the faculty’s overall research strategy. You are expected to contribute – both independently and in collaboration with others – to the development, by leading research of high international quality and contributing to ensuring a high academic and didactic standard in teaching. Qua your excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network, you contribute to the academic development at Aarhus University and to the university’s profile both nationally and internationally.Our research take place in close collaboration with national and international institutions and networks within radiation oncology and particle therapy, and we host the ‘National Infrastructure for Experimental Radiation Oncology’ under the Danish National Research Centre DCCC Radiotherapy.The current preclinical research in experimental clinical radiobiology involves studies of normal tissue radiation response, radiosensitivity and immune response of tumors, hypoxic modification, biomarker development, fractionation studies, RBE of protons and new radiation modalities, such as FLASH and GRID therapy. We have facilities for molecular biology, in vitro and in vivo (mouse animal colony) experimental facilities including dedicated conventional X-rays and proton beam and access to preclinical imaging (PET, MRI, CT).Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • You will lead the research in relevant clinically experimental radiobiology, at ECO and the Danish Center for Particle Therapy.
  • To contribute to the funding of your own research group with the help of external research funding.
  • Research-based collaboration with private and public-sector stakeholders as well as research-based consultancy.
  • Dissemination of your research to the outside world.
  • Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty’s PhD courses.
  • Teaching, supervision and examination of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students.
  • Assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.

You will formally report to the Clinical Professor and Chair in Oncology, and for practical issues to the Head of research unit ECO.Your competences You have a well-established and excellent international track record within the field of pre-clinical science related to cell biology and radiotherapy, and have a solid documented experience within radiobiological in vivo and in vitro models (tumor and different normal tissue endpoints), and molecular methodology, and you have established yourself as a prominent researcher.It is an important part of the position to lead the associated experimental animal facility, and the professor must possess the needed practical experience and legal qualifications to do so. Also, you should have a substantial experience, not least within experimental proton radiobiology.You possess solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have broad international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders. You have also a documented ability to attract significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.As a person, you are a helpful and motivational leader who inspires other researchers and builds trusting relationships with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner.
