THE ROLE :

The Director, UK Business Initiatives and Analytics (BIA) – DFE Reporting will provide team supervisory backup to the Executive Director, UK BIA (DFE) across all areas of the teams reporting functions, and also be a leading contributor and point of contact to the London business and infrastructure partners.

Interacting with Finance and Capital Markets Trading personnel, as well as partnering other infrastructure groups on initiatives (including global initiatives). Providing both analytical and initiative support and delivery to the Trading businesses in London (including the Toronto XVA Management Group). The Director is also responsible for contributing to, helping oversee and maintain integrity of the daily and monthly P&L reporting for the London BIA business lines in support and backup to the Executive Director, London BIA (DFE)

The role includes mentoring of junior analysts, supporting their day-to-day activities, as well as providing senior support and oversight for the many daily tasks and initiatives the team is involved with, ensuring appropriate documentation and controls are adhered to with respect to the expectations / requirements of senior management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production and Analytics

  • Produce, review, explain daily P&L prior to circulation for the supported London BIA Business Lines including accountability for daily revenues and decomposition accuracy.

  • Explanation around daily P&L numbers including analysis of P&L fluctuations and significant drivers for senior management reporting

  • Understand and be comfortable with the relationship between the numbers being reported as part of the daily P&L and the resultant accounting and balance sheets that are attested to by the Accounting group in Toronto

  • Specific focus on source system to GL reconciliations, understanding breaks and improving set up

  • Consolidation and review of London business and entity DFE commentary.

  • Review, explain and communicate Independent Price Verification (IPV) results to key stakeholders for London BIA business lines. Manage stakeholder comfort and sign-off process.

  • Ensure month end and quarter end reporting is complete and accurate. Analyze and reconcile final month-to-date numbers between PnL and GL

  • Initiate analysis to provide recommendations for improvements to enhance business efficiency and support

  • Be at the forefront of process improvement and automation within the team

  • Act as liaison point between other infrastructure areas on reporting processes as they relate to production issue resolution

  • Provide local governance and control across all areas of trading

  • Actively mentor junior DFE analysts becoming point of contact for escalation and support

Strategic and New Initiatives

  • Contribute to London BIA (DFE) input and feedback on CIRAs and CIBC policies.

  • Act as a key UK Finance point of contact for assigned London businesses and RMG on DFE and IPV queries and requests, accountable for communicating status and resolution.

  • Act as primary liaison point between other infrastructure areas on reporting process as it relates to new initiatives and products.

  • Coordinate and manage initiatives and projects on behalf of London BIA (DFE) team, providing SME support, ensuring both internal Finance projects and CIBC wide projects are partnered effectively and executed upon.

  • Represent London BIA (DFE) on various project teams interacting with peers, Executives and business partners often as a sole point of contact

  • Act as advisory service to other Finance groups to promote continuous improvement to process.

  • Actively drive change

COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, guidelines and controls.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong Financial Product knowledge required across derivative products

  • Undergraduate University degree

  • Strong A levels or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Financial Industry, specific focus within Capital Markets

  • Exposure to Interest Rate and/or Equity Derivative businesses a particular advantage

  • Knowledge of XVAs and collateral

  • Comfort in dealing with senior management and making informed decisions on behalf of the team

  • Compassionate and patient approach to mentoring and supporting junior analysts

  • Prior experience working on source system to general ledger feeds an advantage

  • Strong initiative and ability to suggest and deliver comprehensive enhancements in work processes

  • Well-developed organization and prioritization skills in order to handle multiple tasks (prioritizing daily work with various project work and demands of client base) within a dynamic environment;

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills to develop and maintain productive working relationships on complex issues with the staff and management of Front Office, Risk Management, Technology, and Finance

  • Ability to accept and take responsibility

  • Ability to deal successfully with internal/external audit and other external parties;

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Knowledge of Alteryx and/or Tableau strongly encouraged
