Tasks: The research project PID2023-153061OB-I00 “Small-scale turbulent flow on bridge decks: experimental and numerical studies, and potential for passive control of vortex-induced vibrations” covers the following specific objectives:Specific Objective 1: Experimental study of small-scale rod-induced turbulent (SSRIT) flows on bridge decks, and assessment of potential for VIV mitigation.Specific Objective 2: Assessment of the expected accuracy of 2D URANS simulations to simulate the aerodynamic response of bridge decks under SSRIT flowSpecific Objective 3: For static bridge decks, assessment of the expected accuracy and computational burden associated to 3D LES simulations of SSRIT flowSpecific Objective 4: For a bridge undergoing VIV under SSRIT flow, assessment of the expected accuracy and computational burden associated to 3D LES simulationsSpecific Objective 5: Adopt 3D LES simulations to study the ability of one of the VIV mitigative devices designed and tested in the frame of the Specific Objective 1The researcher will participate in the following activities:a) Wind tunnel testing campaign.b) 2D URANS modelling.c) 3D LES modelling d) Postprocessing of experimental and numerical results.2. Duration of the contract:This is a full-time fixed-term contract. Assessment criteria(1) PAST EXPERIENCE IN RESEARCH ACTIVITIES (MAXIMUM 50 POINTS)1.a) Experience in the use of mesh generation software and CFD solvers, such as SALOME, OpenFOAM, STARCCM+, Ansys, ….etc., along with postprocessing and sound understanding of the engineering significance of numerical results (maximum 30 points). The close relationship of the previous work with the topic of the research project will be taken into account, along with the specific contribution of the candidate.

  • Participation in research projects and contracts: up to 5 points per contribution.
  • Author or co-author of scientific publications: up to 3 points per communication to international conference and up to 5 points per article in an international journal.

1.b) Experience in turbulent flow analysis in connection with the topic of the research project (maximum 5 points).

1.d) Other research activities related with the topic of the project such as experimental campaigns in the field or the laboratory, management of research or participation in diffusion activities to wider audiences (maximum 5 points).(2) ACADEMIC RECORDS AND LINK WITH THE PROJECT (MAXIMUM 25 POINTS)In this section, only PhDs attained after 2015 will be given consideration. Similarly, only Master studies finished after 2010 will be considered.2.a) PhD dissertation and relationship with topic of the research project (maximum 10 points).
