Offer DescriptionWe are looking for an excellent, enthusiastic scholar to join the High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship (HBE) department as an assistant professor for Next Generation Digital Platforms (with a focus on the food industry). HBE, positioned within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences, holds a leading position at the interfaces of business, technology, and the social sciences. In our ground-breaking research and novel education programs, we conduct cross-disciplinary research, supporting industries and organizations in decision-making and planning in complex real-life systems in various application areas.As part of this position, you will be working on a multi-disciplinary program entitled ‘High-tech & data-driven agri-food system of the future.’ Together with four other tenure trackers of the four Dutch technology universities (4TU), industry partners, and government stakeholders, you will contribute to novel high-tech local food systems that can be scaled to many urban environments in the world. Your work within this project will focus on the design of a Data Platform that enables:

  • capturing relevant data flows based on food products and ontologies;
  • smart matching of supply and demand for sustainable food consumption/production;
  • transparency of food chains with a privacy-preserving layer for data governance and sovereignty across all actors (consumers, producers, healthcare organizations, etc.);
  • a matching and recommender layer for building smart recommender services for sustainable food consumption and production (e.g., utilizing consumer behaviour analytics and ontologies for explainable algorithms aiming at cross-domain knowledge).

In addition to this project, you will be engaged in the development of Next Generation Digital Platforms in general, alongside exploring related subjects within the areas of management of information systems and business analytics, such as enterprise architecture, blockchain, machine learning, and (generative) AI. Your responsibilities will also include contributing to the acquisition of new projects in these fields and teaching these topics within our educational programs Business & IT, Industrial Engineering and Management, and International Business Administration (we typically assume an equal share between research and education).We challenge conventional scholarly wisdom! You will:

  • carry out high-tech business research, with a genuine interest in operating at the crossroads of Data Science, Information Architecture, and Information Systems, with a specific focus on realizing new business ecosystems;
  • improve your home-based specific expertise and develop an interdisciplinary research line;
  • build our research and teaching ecosystem (e.g., by acquiring external research funding);
  • (co-)teach and coordinate courses in our Bachelor and Master programs of Business & IT, Industrial Engineering and Management, and International Business Administration;
  • developing and delivering innovative curricula on topics within the programs mentioned above, and teaching and supervising students in these fields;
  • develop expertise in novel data-driven research methods and work jointly with BMS lab (a lab that develops expertise in using industrial and behavioural research datasets for research);
  • evaluate your solutions in the light of societally relevant values, which could be security, safety, efficiency, quality of care, privacy, innovation potential, or others;
  • contribute towards the supervision of PhD students.

  • show vision and ambitious drive (seeing opportunities and possibilities, showing ambition);
  • knowledge of and experience in digital systems within the business domain, e.g., management of information systems, data infrastructures, enterprise architecture, service platforms, business analytics, (generative) AI, machine learning, and blockchain;
  • hold a PhD degree in computer science, business information technology, systems engineering, or a related field, and have experience in research, which is apparent from publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities;
  • conduct (fundamental and applied) research within a multidisciplinary environment;
  • active in networks for acquiring research funding, and ambition and experience in working closely with companies and government agencies;
  • teaching experience (both lecturing and tutoring) at an internationally accredited university;
  • be a team player, which will help further develop the business information systems team;
  • willing to collaborate on proposals and joint teaching programs;
  • possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English;
  • possess a (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification certificate, or be willing to obtain this, and have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and effective teacher.

Additional InformationBenefitsWe offer a permanent position (1.0 FTE) after a positive evaluation after 1 year. The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 4.492 to € 6.986 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Assistant Professor.
