Become part of our team and develop the future with us – in a global team that embraces diversity and equal opportunities.JOIN THE TEAMAs a senior data scientist in this role, you will be responsible for the entire data science model lifecycle, including data analysis, model development and training, and cloud deployment. Working closely with our business partners, you will provide insights from data that support better and faster business decisions. You will support data projects from ideation to commissioning and provide ongoing service and support during runtime. Furthermore, you will support and lead junior data scientist in the team.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and implement machine learning algorithms and data pipelines from ideation to prototyping and deployment.
  • Write clean, maintainable and efficient code that adheres to best software development practices.
  • Analyse complex datasets to extract meaningful insights for data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with a talented team of data scientists, engineers and product managers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Implement systems with Generative AI and emerging architectures like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Participate in technical discussions and presentations to clearly communicate complex data science concepts.
  • You will stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, Data Science, and related technologies, and proactively apply them to enhance the effectiveness of your solutions.
  • You will contribute to the development and enhancement of the Analytics & AI Community at BASF, sharing knowledge and insights with colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or a related field with at least 3 years industrial work experience as a Data Scientist.
  • A Master Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or a related field with at least 5 years industrial work experience as a Data Scientist.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (R is a plus) and frameworks like PyTorch, Tensorflow, Scikit-Learn.
  • Experience in deep learning architectures such as Auto Encoders, CNN, GANs, Transformers.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, Databricks, etc.) and container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
  • Strong expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs) and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
  • Strong expertise in predictive analytics and time series forecasting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic planning skills with a passion for leveraging data to drive innovation and business growth.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of German would be a plus (but not required).
