We are seeking a junior analyst to join our fast-paced water microbiology department

This is a full time role working 36.25 hours per week, on a rotating shift pattern which will include Monday to Friday and Tuesday to Saturday. – 06:00-14:00 / 10:00-18:00.  

During training the normal hours will be 08:00-16:00 or 09:00-17:00. Staff will also be required to cover bank holidays on a rota basis. Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime will be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

  • Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis

  • Sample preparation in line with company protocols

  • Microbiological analysis of water samples in line with company protocols

  • Training and operation of relevant equipment

  • General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination

  • Accurate Data entry into laboratory database

  • Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system

  • Effective communication with all employees

  • Report any anomalous results or situations to Laboratory Supervisor

  • Health and Safety procedures are adhered to within the laboratory

  • A level in a science related subject (preferably Biology)

  • GCSE English and Mathematics and Science or equivalent

  • Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel)

  • Comfortable working in a busy environment

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately

  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team

  • Desirable:                          

  • Educated to HND level in a relevant scientific subject

  • Laboratory experience

  • Experience of culture of microorganisms

  • Knowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025)
