Job title:
DTU Tenure Track Researcher in Quantum Optical Communication Systems – DTU Electro
Company:
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet
Job description
Job Description:We are seeking a candidate to conduct experimental research on quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum communication. The focus will be on designing schemes using high-dimensional quantum states, addressing deployment challenges, and conducting field trials. The candidate will also explore advanced protocols like quantum secret sharing and distributed quantum computing. We seek a scientist with the vision to lead an independent research program, supervise students, and secure external funding. Responsibilities include managing research, supervising staff, and fostering collaboration with DTU Electro and international partners.Joining our group offers a dynamic and collaborative environment that supports cutting-edge research. You will work alongside skilled researchers, engaging in stimulating intellectual exchanges and groundbreaking projects. The workplace fosters innovation and personal growth, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, allowing you to pursue your research vision within a strong infrastructure. The position as Researcher includes both research and teaching, though with a stronger focus on research, and tenure track refers to the expectation of a long term continued career at DTU. The position is thus for a researcher with a proven track record in the field, and with clear plans for expanding the research area.Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for a candidate to experimentally study topics that include designing and developing modern schemes for quantum key distribution based on high-dimensional quantum states, addressing the challenges associated with deploying quantum key distribution, such as the co-propagation of classical data with quantum states and network designs, and conducting field trial tests of QKD systems. The candidate will also explore quantum communication beyond QKD, developing novel protocols like quantum secret sharing and distributed quantum computing. The ideal candidate is expected to have experience and expertise in areas such as fiber-based quantum key distribution, experimental and theoretical knowledge of quantum communication, proficiency in high-speed electronics and FPGA coding, and familiarity with classical optical communication systems. Experience with high-dimensional fiber-based quantum communication is also highly valued. The candidate should possess self-motivation in scientific research as well as strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.Beyond technical expertise, we are looking for a scientist with exceptional vision and the ability to define and pursue an independent research program. The ideal candidate should possess the scientific maturity required to supervise students, lead a research group, and drive their research ideas to fruition. Additionally, the ability to attract external funding through competitive processes at both national and international levels is a critical quality we are looking for. This is an opportunity for an outstanding scientist to make significant contributions to the field of quantum photonics while advancing their own research career.Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment of tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff, as well as fulfilling other related tasks requested by the Department. Furthermore, the successful applicant is expected to be able to attract and lead major research programs, to strengthen and closely cooperate with other activities at DTU Electro, and to collaborate internationally.Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Research experience
- Experience and quality of teaching
- Research vision and potential
- International impact and experience
- Societal impact
- Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
- Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
- Communication skills
Our Research Group
