Offer DescriptionWe are looking for a researcher to join the Transfers in Porous Media (TMP) team at Géosciences Montpellier (GM). Since September 1, 2024, TMP has been a member of the “Eastern Lights” consortium financed by the European community and which aims in particular to set up a pilot CO2 storage site in NW Bulgaria. In charge of WP3 entitled “Storage Sites”, the CNRS mission is to participate to choose the drillsite location, and to carry out (i) the injection and monitoring hole design, (ii) the core logging for the cap rock and reservoir, and (iii) downhole geophysical measurements in the new well as well as surrounding previous wells. This last part will be performed under the supervision of Gilles Henry and with the CNRS logging instruments.This position is for a fixed term of 30 months. The strategy for describing the CO2 storage site developed by the candidate will be multi-method and multi-scale, and will combine geological, mineralogical and geochemical approaches on cores, petrophysics on selected samples, as well as geophysics, both downhole and from surface. We will seek to integrate All available measurements and new sample or field studies will have to be integrated across scales with the aim of obtaining a multi-kilometer model of the storage site.TMP is part of the Geosciences Montpellier (GM) laboratory, a multidisciplinary research unit, drawing on a wide range of professions and expertise to develop new knowledge on geodynamics, the environment and geo-resources. Its activity is divided into 6 thematic axes: Deformation, Transfers and couplings, Primitive Earth, Hazards, Hydrosystems and Resources.The candidate will work as part of the Geosciences Montpellier laboratory which is located on the Triolet campus of the University of Montpellier. All means will be made available to him/her so that he/she can carry out his/her work successfully. The candidate will interact with researchers from the GM laboratory and the TMP team mainly (G. Henry, P. Gouze, J. Lofi, P. Pezard, L. Brun) but will be able to set up his/her own international collaborations, particularly for geological and petrophysical aspects. He/she must have in-depth knowledge of geology, petrophysics, borehole geophysics and seismic analysis of sedimentary sequences. The candidate must enjoy working in a team and in the field. Prior knowledge of the work and safety aspects to be undertaken as part of scientific drilling operations will be a plus. Good oral and written command of the English language is fundamental.
