Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) – PermanentLocation: Sheffield, Sheffield International Study CentreSalary: £27,264 per annumThe University of Sheffield International College is seeking a Progress Coach to provide academic and pastoral support to a caseload of international students on Science pathways, with the aim of assisting their progression to UG and PG courses at the University of Sheffield. The post holder will be part of the College’s Progression Team and report to the Student Progress Lead.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Progress Coach will be responsible for providing academic and pastoral support to a caseload of international students. These will be a mixture of Foundation students progressing to undergraduate courses and Pre Masters students progressing to Masters courses at the University of Sheffield. Support will be delivered through 1-2-1 meetings with students in which their academic progress will be discussed and areas for improvement identified. Where students are identified as being off track more intensive, subject-specific support will be provided. The post holder will be expected to provide advice and support to students who present low-level welfare concerns triggered by academic factors such as stress and poor sleep patterns. The Progress Coach will monitor the attendance of students in their caseload, identify those in need of intervention and follow up with those who have been issued formal warnings The successful candidate will be expected to develop a knowledge of college teams and processes to be able to seek answers to student questions and signpost where appropriate. They will also be expected to escalate more serious welfare and academic concerns to the relevant team or individual. As well as individual support, the Progress Coach will deliver workshops to groups of students in their caseload that will support their learning and adaptation to UKHE. The successful candidate will be able to work individually and as part of a team. They will be required to keep concise and accurate meeting records, be able to effectively manage their workload and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.ABOUT YOU

  • Experience in providing academic and/or pastoral support to students or young adults in a 1-2-1 or small group setting
  • Degree level qualification, relevant subject knowledge at undergraduate level or equivalent experience
  • The ability to communicate effectively by adapting the delivery of messages to a range of audiences
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and Google suite
  • The ability to take an empathetic and patient approach towards student support.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by University students.
