We are looking for a student Sonographer to join our growing team at Ipswich Hospital. As part of this post you will undergo training that is both academic (at University of the West of England, Bristol) and practical (in our department). You will be required to travel to Bristol, however expenses will be paid. Upon successful completion you will attain a PG Dip in General Medical, Obstetric and Gynaecology Ultrasound. Offer of employment will be conditional on the offer of a university place.This full time post will be rostered as shifts over a seven day week to include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays as required. The base will be Ipswich Hospital; however flexibility and visits to other ESNEFT sites may also be required. The Radiology core working hours are 08:00 – 20:00 seven days a week.We are seeking a highly motivated, hard-working individual who is able to commit to an intense, but highly rewarding training course in General Medical Ultrasound, with the possibility of continuing onto Obstetric Ultrasound, depending on department need.Applications are welcome from any health care profession with a 2:1 or above graduate qualification in their area of expertise and must have a professional registration such as HCPC or NMC registration. Previous imaging experience is desirable.You will be responsible (under supervision at all times) for the provision of an accurate ultrasound report direct to the referring clinician.Main duties of the jobTo maintain a high professional and technical standard at all times.

  • To safely use all ultrasound units within the Trust.
  • Perform Ultrasound examinations under the direct supervision of a registered Sonographer.
  • Positively check patient’s details prior to examination and ensuring that such details are present and correct on the request form/computer. Requests must be justified, as per departmental protocol
  • Develop analytical and judgment skills required to determine the appropriate scanning method, based on clinical information and patient condition in order to individualise patient examinations required for optimal scanning and reporting.
