Mars operates several businesses in France, including Mars Petcare France, Mars Confectionery, Mars IS, Royal Canin Headquarters, Royal Canin France, and CEIPA. These businesses form eight legal entities whose statutory accounts must be completed and approved annually.
In this role, you will ensure that the fiduciary responsibilities of local Company Directors are met, requiring close collaboration with various stakeholders such as Finance (S&F), Legal, external advisors (Sefico), auditors, local Directors, and local authorities. As the Statutory Accounts Manager, you will implement the statutory accounting strategy defined by the ICTC Head. Your work will provide the transparency needed for effective decision-making and the timely sign-off on statutory filings and audits.
Additionally, you will contribute to special projects and offer support on key initiatives, such as digitalization, across the Tax and Treasury functions, based on direction from the ICTC Head.
What are we looking for?
- With at least 6 years of experience, you have strong knowledge of both US GAAP and French GAAP and are comfortable working with systems such as SAP, Navision, and Alteryx.
- You thrive in environments where you need to interact with multiple stakeholders, including auditors, external French accounting firms, lawyers, foreign third-party providers, and works councils.
- You possess a solid technical background in audit or accounting, with a proven ability to drive results.
- Your agility allows you to adapt quickly to changing situations and collaborate with the right people to gather the necessary information.
- You ideally have a DSCG certification, although a business school background with audit experience is also suitable.
- You are fluent in both French and English.
What will be your key responsibilities?
Statutory Accounting
- Lead the initiation and review of statutory accounting adjustments for general transactions, depreciation, inventory, and other financial operations.
- Stay updated on local statutory accounting and reporting requirements to ensure full compliance.
- Identify and correctly map any adjustments needed from US GAAP to local statutory standards for all entities under ICTC’s support.
- Design, implement, and maintain processes and tools to adjust Mars’ US GAAP books to local statutory accounting books.
- Collaborate closely with other Finance (S&F) functions, including MGS Finance, Controllers, and more.
Preparation of Local Statutory Financial Statements
- Oversee the preparation of statutory financial statements that meet local compliance requirements across all entities supported by the ICTC.
- This includes data extraction from ERP systems, reviewing data, analysis, year-end adjustments, and preparing disclosure notes.
- Ensure the preparation and review of local consolidated financial statements, if applicable.
- Manage external service providers assisting with the preparation of local Financial Statements.
Managing Statutory External Audits
- Lead the relationship with the local external audit provider, ensuring a thorough understanding of the audit plan.
- Track and report audit costs against the set budget.
- Oversee the local statutory audit process for each legal entity, ensuring it is completed on time, efficiently, and within budget.
- Serve as the single point of contact for external auditors, providing full support for local financial statement audits, including:
- Coordinating information and evidence collection.
- Working closely with MGS and Controllers as necessary.
- Address and close any questions raised by external auditors.
Approval and Filing of Statutory Financial Statements
- Prepare all documents related to the local Statutory Accounts, including directors’ and shareholders’ documents, in collaboration with relevant functions.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is approved, signed, and filed with local authorities, whether electronically or physically.
- Resolve any queries or issues from local authorities regarding the filings.
