A leading Alternative Provision school specializing in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team. If you are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young people facing behavioral challenges, we want to hear from you.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, including those displaying challenging behaviors.
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized behavior plans and academic interventions to support student success.
  • Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment that promotes positive social interactions and emotional well-being.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to address the holistic needs of students and promote their overall development.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and locations, providing guidance and encouragement as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to accommodate students’ diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior incidents, and interventions, providing feedback to the teaching team as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques, de-escalation strategies, and positive reinforcement approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the academic and emotional growth of students facing behavioral challenges.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Relevant training or qualifications in behavior management, safeguarding, or special education (desirable but not essential).
