Requires broadened conceptual and working knowledge and experience in job discipline to perform a range of work assignmentsProcess Safety Focal Point:The Process Safety Focal Point (PSFP) is the primary technical contact for the identification, assessment, and management of process safety risks within each Production, Site Logistics and Environmental Operations facility.Backup ​Plant Process Control CoordinationUtilize troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause of problem areas in Process Control code, Operator Interface or hardware. Utilize available techniques and tools for optimizing plant and reduction / prevention of unplanned eventsResponsibilitiesYour first 90 daysProduction Engineer:

  • Works closely with the operations team leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
  • Diagnoses and documents root causes of asset utilization losses in the facility.
  • Understands why specific procedure steps and precautions are needed and keeps a strong field presence to reinforce the importance.
  • Conducts daily review of logbook and alarm history to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities.
  • Maintains, owns, and reviews daily Key Process Indicators (KPI)/ trends to ensure optimum performance.

Process Safety Focal Point:

  • Work with PSTL’s and business Technology Center to provide Process Safety support for the facility, including guidance on implementation of Loss Prevention Principles (LPP’s) and compliance with local regulations.
  • Ensures Process Safety Near Misses (PSNM’s) and Process Safety and Containment Events (PSCE’s) are investigated and reported using the required reporting tools.
  • Perform Process Safety reviews on MOC’s for the facility, escalating to a PSTL for further review where required.
  • Communication focal point (both directions) for the Process Safety related knowledge and issues at the facility.
  • Participate in, and help prepare for, Root Cause Investigations (RCIs), Reactive Chemical Process Hazard Analysis (RCPHA), Management of Change reviews, and other Process Safety requirements as needed.
  • Actively engage in geographic and / or Business Process Safety Focal point networks and communication meetings to share best practices and Learning Experience Reports

Your first 6 monthsProduction Engineer:

  • Responds urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
  • Partners with experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve and document operating discipline.

Process Safety Focal Point:

  • Works with Maintenance to review instrumented protective system (SIS, BPCS, CI) test, inspection, and calibration results and follow up as needed.
  • Facilitate gap assessments against Dow mandatory requirements and local standards, and work with plant leadership to gain resources to close identified gaps.
  • Supports the development and delivery of Process Safety training in the facility.

Backup ​Plant Process Control Coordination:

  • Utilize troubleshooting techniques to identify root cause of problem areas in Process Control code, Operator Interface or hardware.

Your first year:Production Engineer:

  • Elevates and appropriately applies knowledge of the plant and technology referencing historical data and conferring with Technology Center or other subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized and that process automation is used as a tool to optimize plant performance.
  • Utilizes defined MET and challenges/escalates MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.
  • Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provides leadership, expertise, diagnosis, and optimization in plant Raw Material Efficiency, which may include yield or waste generation.
  • Ensures compliance with plant operating permits. Understands site integration and provides input to optimize the overall system.

Process Safety Focal Point:

  • Assist in developing plant, business, and site process safety goals.
  • Plant resource for process safety self-assessments, EHS audits, and LOPA revalidations
  • Maintains the process safety documentation for the facility (RC/PHA, LOPA, DowGEP, LPP gap assessment, SSIS, relief design calculations, HAC, etc.)

Backup ​Plant Process Control:

  • Utilize available techniques and tools for optimizing plant and reduction / prevention of unplanned events.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Fluent in French and English
