Be the captain of your career, come sail with us!In search of a Survey IT Support EngineerThe Survey IT Support Engineer is primarily office-based and is responsible for setting up and maintaining the survey IT network on board vessels, ensuring that all network operations adhere to company standards. This role also involves maintaining survey computers and networking equipment, advising on the replacement of outdated or faulty hardware. The Survey IT Engineer acts as the primary link between the Survey and IT departments, ensuring seamless communication and integration of IT systems within survey operations. Regular visits to vessels are required to set up and maintain equipment when necessary.Key responsibilities:1. Network Setup and Maintenance

  • Set up and maintain the survey IT network on board vessels, ensuring that all systems operate according to company standards.
  • Monitor network performance to ensure smooth and reliable operation during survey activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues promptly to minimise downtime and ensure continuous survey operations, with occasional on-site visits to vessels to address more complex issues.

2. Survey IT Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintain and service survey computers and networking equipment on board vessels.
  • Conduct regular checks and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • Advise the Lead Survey Support Engineer on the replacement or upgrade of survey IT equipment when necessary.

3. Compliance with Company Standards

  • Ensure that all network and IT systems comply with company policies and standards, including (cyber) security protocols.
  • Keep up to date with the latest IT and networking technologies to ensure the company’s systems remain current and efficient.

4. Communication and Coordination

  • Act as the primary liaison between the Survey and IT departments, facilitating effective communication and coordination.
  • Work closely with IT department to ensure that survey network setups align with overall IT infrastructure and security requirements.
  • Provide technical support to survey teams regarding IT and networking issues on board vessels.

5. Documentation and Reporting

  • Document all network setups, configurations, and maintenance activities for future reference and auditing purposes.
  • Report regularly to the Lead Survey Support Engineer on the status of the survey IT network and any issues encountered.
  • Maintain an inventory of survey IT equipment and keep records of maintenance schedules and equipment life cycles.

6. Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE)

  • Adhere to company QHSE policies, procedures, and all relevant documentation.
  • Participate in drills, training, and other QHSE-related activities.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and environmental well-being of oneself and others by following relevant systems, rules, and methods of working.
  • Report incidents and participate in investigations, following the company’s QHSE procedures.

What do we expect from you?Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field, or by equivalent experience.Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA-201-300) certification is preferred for this role.

  • Experience in setting up and maintaining IT networks, preferably in a maritime or offshore environment.
  • Familiarity with networking equipment, servers, and computer systems used in survey operations.
  • Strong understanding of IT network setup, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Proficient in managing and troubleshooting network devices and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, servers, and networking hardware used in survey operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve IT issues efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in explaining technical issues to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on maintaining operational standards.
