Postdoctoral Position (M/F) – High-Throughput Alloy Design and Corrosion Investigations for High-Performance Alloys under Extreme Conditions

Company:

Job description

Offer DescriptionIn the context of the urgent need for ecological transition, the PEPR CROCUS project focuses on the rapid selection and testing of corrosion-resistant materials. The successful candidate will utilize high-throughput methodologies to develop and characterize high-corrosion-resistant alloys designed for extreme conditions, such as those found in nuclear energy applications. The primary focus will be on Ni-Cr-based alloys with the addition of third elements, aiming to build a high-quality database linking alloy properties with their compositions. The research may also extend to other critical alloy systems, such as Ti and Zr, due to their importance in safety-critical applications. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for high-throughput alloy design, alloy fabrication, metallurgical characterization, and Atomic Emission Spectroelectrochemistry (AESEC) investigations. Collaboration with partner laboratories for alloy synthesis and further studies will be an integral part of the work.1. Alloy Fabrication: Independently operate the Edmund Bühler AM500 Arc-Melting system for melting and suction casting in support of the project and collaborative efforts.
2. Corrosion Mechanism Analysis: Autonomously conduct corrosion studies using the AESEC platform, integrating ICP-AES with an in-situ electrochemical flow cell for mechanistic analysis.
3. Thin Film Preparation: Assist with alloy thin film preparation using PVD techniques at partner laboratory.
4. Thermomechanical and Surface Treatments: Perform bulk alloy thermomechanical processing and surface treatments.
5. Characterizations: Carry out comprehensive alloy characterizations, including XRD, SEM, TEM, tensile testing, and thermodynamic measurements.
6. Scientific Communication: Analyze data, prepare project reports, present findings at conferences, and contribute to scientific publications. This postdoctoral position is part of the “miCro laboRatory fOr antiCorrosion solUtion deSign” (CROCUS) project, funded by the French Agence de la Recherche (ANR) under the “Programmes et Équipements Prioritaires de Recherche” (PEPR). The CROCUS project aims to uncover and quantify the fundamental reaction steps during the passivation and activation of new alloys developed through a high-throughput approach. The postdoctoral research will be primarily conducted within the Structural Metallurgy Team at IRCP, Chimie-Paristech, PSL University, under the supervision of Dr. Fan Sun, co-PI of the project. The researcher will work closely with partners at LISE lab, Sorbonne University (coordinated by Dr. Junsoo Han, PI of the project), and S2CM of CEA Saclay (coordinated by Dr. Pierre LAGHOUTARIS, co-PI).Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Engineering Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Physics Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Engineering » Materials engineering Years of Research Experience NoneResearch Field Physics » Acoustics Years of Research Experience NoneAdditional InformationEligibility criteria
