Post-doc – Cellular biology of heterotypic amyloid interactions

Company:

VIB

Job description

We are looking for a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise in cell biology to join our NIH-funded project, which focuses on identifying and characterizing heterotypic amyloid interactions as modulators of selective cellular vulnerability. As the project progresses, we are entering a crucial phase that involves detailed cellular assays to explore and validate the roles of these interactions. Your expertise will be key in driving this exciting research forward and exploring the implications of these interactions in cellular systems. What is the project all about?
Amyloid aggregates manifest in specific brain regions while sparing others. Our project aims to unravel whether heterotypic interactions between aggregation-prone regions of amyloid-forming proteins and the background proteome dictate this selective vulnerability. This hypothesis will be tested using a genome-wide computational screen, followed by experimental validation in cellular models and, subsequently, in mice. A key aspect of this research will involve cell biological techniques to validate interactions and elucidate how these alter cellular functions and drive disease processes.About the lab
The SWITCH Laboratory is a leading research group focused on the cell biology and biophysics of protein aggregation in human disease. Our interdisciplinary team of over twenty-five researchers, including experts in cell biology, bioinformatics, biophysics, and chemistry, provides a rich environment for cutting-edge research. We are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for cellular and molecular biology, including advanced microscopy, high-content screening, and other tools essential for cell biology research. You can read more about us on our website [http://www.switchlab.org/] and be sure to check out our laboratory [https://switchlab.org/laboratory] section to explore the fantastic infrastructure that SWITCH has to offer!Your Job
As a key member of our ‘heterotypics’ team, you will be at the forefront of this project, integrating your expertise in cellular biology with protein aggregation research. Working closely with the PIs of the Switch Lab, this role offers a mix of hands-on experimental work and data analysis, with robust administrative support to ensure you can focus on driving scientific discovery.Your profile
PhD with strong focus on Cell Biology, ideally in the setting of protein aggregation, protein homeostasis, or a related field.Extensive experience with cellular models and assays related to protein aggregation, including microscopy, cell-based screening, and related techniques.A solid publication record, including first-author research articles in peer-reviewed international journals.A strong interest in understanding the cellular mechanisms underlying protein aggregation and its implications in disease.Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and innovative, with excellent communication skills.Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.Prior experience in project coordination or supervision is a plus.
