It brings together multidisciplinary high-level teams composed of actuaries, engineers, PhDs and financial analysts, based in Paris (65 people), Zurich (15 people) and Madrid (20 people).Within this Department, you will be part of the Natural Hazards Team dynamic 15-members team dedicated to the modeling and monitoring of the climate and natural catastrophe risks borne by the company.Your role and daily missions :JOB PURPOSEThe apprentice will take part in the development and implementation of the next generation of Severe Convective Storm risk models at AXA. The new model will contribute to a better Severe Convective Storm risk assessment and to enhance AXA’s internal view.CONTEXT AND MAJOR CHALLENGESAXA has developed a strong expertise in severe convective storm modeling capabilities. Mastering this risk has become an important topic for the insurance industry, especially considering recent trends attributed to climate change. The work will involve strengthening expertise by actively contributing to severe convective storm modeling in both the hazard module and the vulnerability module. Validating the outputs and integrating all developed modules into AXA’s loss modeling framework will be a necessary and important activity throughout the project.QualificationsTechnical and professional skills, level of experience:The ideal candidate should hold a master’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, computer science, or a related field (such as engineering schools), with a strong interest in academic research and climate modeling topics. The candidate should demonstrate a strong analytical mindset, proficient programming skills (Python, R), and effective communication abilities to collaborate within a team.Additionally, they should possess the following qualities:
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced international environment
- Meticulous attention to detail and the autonomy to execute tasks
- Interest in climate risk management and climate change topics
